Found a wreck in the dunes and was extremely dissapointed.
During an exploration of the dunes (where i was really scared, having only a seamoth) I finally found a wreck. I was looking for those elusive prawn suit drill arm fragments. Unfortunately, even after scavenging THE ENTIRE WRECK, there was only supply crates with disinfected water..
There wasn't even a single fragment there! I went through the dunes in fear for a long time, and all i got was a big middle finger to the face..
Even though this might be rarer than your game glitching out and spawning your life pod in a reaper zone, i would really like the RNG for supply crates to be lowered drastically. There has been many times in this new update where i scavenged wrecks for certain fragments, only to be dissapointed, finding only supply crates with medkits or disinfected water bottles..

You mean in the big wreck? Or the small one?

This might have been one of the newer wrecks that were implemented in this current update. Its fragment count probably hasn't been properly configured yet. Try reporting your findings by pressing F8 in-game and leaving feedback.

Is there some way to tell what the section of the world you're in is called in game?
Because people say things like "Grand Reef" and I have no idea how to tell if that's something I've seen and kiiiinda looks like it might be a 'grand reef', or whether it's something I havne't even gotten to yet.

Im pretty certain that it was the older wreck. It wasn't too far from the muchroom forest, and it was a pretty big wreck. It looked like the one in the Mountains. Thanks for the support everyone, though. I know my stuff about subnautica, but i don't know anything about the wrecks, at least not too much.

The Grand Reef is the dark biome with the big blue plant ball things. It's at a pretty high depth, and its not too far from the island with the abandoned base. Also you can check what biome you're in by pressing F3, IIRC.
