While it's a default to vehicles now, and they intend for some vague "Uh, well it gives SOME power, I guess?" indicator added to placing thermal plants. Player thermomoter really was a nice bit of QoL and information that Vehicle and minimum info from Generator placment doesn't compete with.
As far as I can figure, there are two most likely reasons why they would cut a perfectly fine and functional feature.
1: Generic "Swimming accessible Thermomoter does not fir out VISION! We did you a favor cutting it from the game!:"
2: Whatever they did to enable thermomoters by default on vehicles, had some kind of code conflict with equipped chip thermomoters. So it would be faster to just cut the player thermomoter than fix such conflicts (and then tell you that you should be thankful they cut it).
Sprinkle some players rushing in to say "Well who cares not like you NEED it LOL" to taste.
That's some honestly great news to hear. Even if still having an actual UI thermomoter would be better.
The incredibly basic color coding was terrible, and means you were better off just spamming generators like a slob because you can't carefully place them where they would work best around vents. Even a little difference is quite an impact, particularly where vents are concerned rather than "It's always hot, forever" lava biomes.
