Around the safe shallows there are debris piles. Look there. Can find the Beacon and Grav spehere there as well. SOmetimes the Seaglide is there too.

Well its around 10 h in this new save and no cutter in shallows for me yet. I already got seamoth, unlocked first precursor base ,repaired aurora reactor and all that. But no cutter.

I'm finding a lot of very critical tech fragments are either now stupidly rare and scattered, or missing entirely in the Ghost Update. I found EXACTLY the minimum # of fragments to unlock the laser cutter in one wreck in a Kelp Forest near Lifepod 3 (the one that says they have a broken seaglide). If you head between Lifepod 3 and the general area of the SW shallows where your lifepod spawns, you have a good chance of spotting it.

If I hadn't stumbled across that wreck (not enough landmarks in the area to have that be one whose location I've memorized and can find reliably), I'd be boned, because they appeared NOWHERE else. And it was a mini-wreck, not a big one. Kind of stupid to hang such a critical tool on one tiny little hole-in-the-wall you could easily play the whole game and never find. Might as well put it in a precursor cache. At least those are kinda marked. I couldn't even find it a second time when I went to go back to gather metal from around it, and I had just been there!

In other news, for the first time in my nearly 3 years of playing, I will have to cheat if I want to build a moonpool, because there are NO fragments for it whatsoever.

I found out later my issue was the fragments are TINY. And easily missed. Once I had a scanner room setup in my temp base and set to scan for the fragmets, there were 50+ scattered beneathe lifepod 5.
Yuri Aug 25, 2017 @ 6:29pm
yes i thing i setup scanner room! thanks!

I got lucky with moonpool. Guess cutter is punisment for me.

You find the cutter in wrecks near the lifepods. Search around them and inside.

Scaneer room scanned for 3 laser cutter fragments. One of which behind sealed door. Are you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ kidding me? hope there is gamedisigner hell somwhere!
Yuri Aug 25, 2017 @ 7:50pm
I get it by diving under the structure and scanning throu wall. That was hardest quest on subnautica so far. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1120227792

I belive you mean "Realistic immersion"

Though seriously, thank you for providing a real life example of such a comically stupid fragment spawns result.

Another one for the "It sounds like Hyperbole, but it actually happens" pile.

Easy way to get laser cutter .Steps to reproduce.

1. Search all starting biomes for cutter for 5 hours.
2.Setup scanning room.
3.Kill stalkers stealing cameras for half a hour.
4.Produce scaner upgrade to display locations of parts in hud.
5.Search all locations for half a hour.
6.Realize that you can scan only cutter parts and scan it.
7.You got exacly 3 parts but one is sealed!
8.Use clipping to get it.

Good boy you got you cutter!

That was still fun :)

After starting a new playthrough, i can confirm fragment spawns seem pretty messed up. Searched every single wreck and found no moonpool fragments.
Skygaze Aug 25, 2017 @ 9:35pm
I couldn't find one and decided i'd just play and hope the fragments turn up.

So i build a nice base with a scanner room, lo and behold about 5 fragments were in the redgrass near my base.

Was kinda pissed because its almost impossible to spot them unless you literally comb the entire biome.
