What i did to kill the ampeels in my game was get a propulsion cannon and launch acid mushrooms at them because acid mushrooms explode and do even more damage on impact.
Hope this helps!
If you follow the jellyrays closely whenever they are in a group, every once in a while one of them will lay ablue egg. I haven't seen any eggs actually hatch but after a while an egg will start to move. Some of them jump around while other look like something is trying to push out of them. I almost got the chance to see a crabsquid hatch in an alien containment after I saw the egg pulsating like crazy but I went outside for a few seconds and when I came back in it had hatched already. I doubt anything special happens, though; the egg probably breaks and a creature probably appears from nowhere right above it.
If you are going to see whether or not creatures do spawn on their own outside then I suggest using the "invisible" and "oxygen" console commands as this could become quite time-consuming.
