Best way to power Cyclops!
So, when I've got the glorious Cyclops, I thought that that is the perfect thing. But I was wrong, because of power sources. My first idea was to build three power cell chargers, but that drained power from Cyclops to charge them so that was pretty endless. My second idea (this time good idea) that I use even now is that in one of my lockers on Cyclops I have resources to build a multipurpose room, nuclear reactor and one (or two for long journeys) reactor rods. Now when i run out of energy or go somewhere deeper in my PRAWN, I build one room place in it reactor and cell chargers. When I'm back I have six fully charged power cells and my Cyclops is ready to go!

I tend to build permanent way stations. I power them with bio reactors so I have an endless supply of fuel for them. It does need two multipurpose rooms though. You can dismantle the power cell charger and take it with you but personally I build each base with its own chargers so I always have cells ready.

Quite frankly I'd just rather have the Cyclops powered by a nuclear reactor... But that's just me, and people will instantly jump on the possible dangers of radiation in case the sub goes "boom"...

get a thermal generator upgrade for the cyclops from a schematic in a wreck, everytime you are in warm waters (>35'c) it produces energy from that heat. it's a way of conserving energy for the cyclops when out and about.

additionally if you get the engine efficency module from the aurora and install it on the cyclops the energy costs on moving is signifcantally lesser so you don't need to charge up so often, you can stack these and bring the costs to a minimal level.

finally if you can, make some ion p-cells and take your energy from 1.5k to 6k.

with that stated, yes having a few places dotted around the map with chargers and a power source would be useful to have as you lose energy putting p-cells or ion p-cells on the cyclops, they drain energy at a signifcant rate.

Nice idea, but I'd keep thermal/solar station resources instead of a nuclear reactor. Vents aren't too hard to find.

Ideally, devs should add an upgrade that lets Cyclops link up with transmitter network and recharge that way.

However, I can't help but feel that the new aggro-magnet wet-tissue-hull Cyclops is more of a self-imposed challenge than a useful tool.

Exploring thoroughly (and cautiously, in some parts) in and around the Aurora should yield a lot of power cells. One time I had about 20 extras sitting in a wall locker in my Cyclops, more than enough for an extended journey, and I didn't make any of them. The crates can be hard to spot sometimes, though.

I also used a bunch of power cells I found in and around the Aurora. I have two wall containers in my Cyclops near the doors to the power cells. One marked full, one marked empty. From there I can keep swopping out power cells till I eventually head back home.

Once home, I have 8 slots (4 rechargers) and just throw them in there whilst I'm doing odds and ends. My main base is powered with 3 Thermal, 16 Solar, 2 Bioreactors and 1 nuclear reactor so no issues there.

I've been all the way north, south, east and west without ever even nearly depleting my battery supply. I can also then simply swop out cells with my prawn and seamoth.

I'll never stop wishing for 2 docking bays though so I could take a prawn and seamoth with me at all times.

There have been many different "unique" ways to repower the cyclops. The easiest of course would be to get the thermal upgrade and park it at a vent.

Another way, is to take out all the power cells, and swap them in and out of your seamoth which is parked in a moon pool.

Swap them out with the prawn, which is parked on a thermal vent.

Swap them out with the seamoth at teh surface for solar charging.

Most people will probably use a Waypoint system of bases though. Have a thermal reactor or a bio reactor and charge the cells that way.

Now I have a better solution :) Just found some kyanite in ILZ and my own thermal reactor is in my Cyclops :3 Of course in PRAWN this works better but in emergency situations thermal reactor is very good :D
Storm 7 AGO 2017 a las 8:39 a. m.
The thermal reactor is nice, but it only works in certain places and your cyclops needs to stand dormant for the recharge period. I prefer something that doesn't force me to leave my game just idling away so it can recharge.
mr pindolek 7 AGO 2017 a las 9:03 a. m.
Fastest metod, is my idea with multipurpose room, reactor and p-cell chargers, but usually when I use thermal reactor, i don't need to idle because I go exploring deeper with my PRAWN and I leave Cyclops to recharge.

Ion batteries and cyclops thermal reactor, with backups if necessary. Lasts long enough for trips without base building needed.
Storm 7 AGO 2017 a las 10:02 a. m.
Ion batteries are definitely the perfect solution, though no idea when I'll even be able to build my first. And with the fact that Ion Crystals are so ubber rare, you can't really go to town and have fun.

they arent "super" rare, they can be gotten from purcursor bases and caches as well as deeper into the lava zone, but you will need a prawn with drilling arm to break them up.the primary comtainment facility otherwise known as the prison or aquarium can produce large deposits of ion crystals. so you are likely to run out of most other materials eventually due to the finite nature of whats around where as the facility can keep producing these things.

The way I powered my cyclops is by building a moonpool near a, say, underwater volcano. Then I build a multipurpose room or two connected to it, and place a reactor into it. (Nuclear, Bio, whatnot.) And then I also place a few thermal reactors outside next to the volcano (So at least there's always power being supplied.)

Then taking the PRAWN suit, I'd go out there, place the suit next to the heat spot, and swap the batteries out with the uncharged batteries of the cyclops.

Then getting into the PRAWN suit, I'd use it's one or two percent power, and place it into the moonpool, and let it charge. Afterwards, getting the PRAWN suit once more, I'd take it to the heatspot, and repeat from step two.

Most efficient for me personally, versus using the 40 minute power cell charger.

I really like the idea of using wireless power transmitters to recharge the Cyclops!

The ideas about building recharge stations sounds good, but when you realize you need to actually park, take the cells out, go to the base, plug the cells in, wait for them to recharge, then go back... then the idea sort of loses the charm.

A fast recharge via a wireless link sounds far better.
