A way to pass the time...
So, I recently got up to the point in Survival mode where the current story runs out. My base is pretty cool, so I'm currently waiting for the next update to progress in that game. I decided to start a Hardcore mode game to see what playing that was like...

... and I found myself missing one of the quality of life improvements that I didn't expect to miss: specifically, the bed. Once you get a bed blueprint you can 'sleep' which is the only way I know of in-game to fast-forward through a time wait.

I often used the bed to skip playing at night almost all together when I was gathering materials (which, let's face it, is about half the time in survival games). Night time in Subnautica is a time when it's hard to see, hard to explore wrecks, and while there are a couple of light sources that allow you to see in your peripheral vision they're not bright enough to illuminate distant objects when farming.

Which means that I find myself wanting one of two things.

1) My kingdom for some night vision goggles. I actually think that these would make a sweet midgame or late game item.

2) An option to sit my character's butt down and fast-forward some time. Make me take penalties to hunger and thirst. Make the batteries of my machines run down if they were on while I was doing it. I don't care. I just don't want to get stuck twiddling my fingers and reading a book IRL while I wait for night to pass so I can go farm some copper early/mid game (the problem partially resolves with the scanner room - but not completely).

I do not think this is a question of making the game easier - after all, I can already pass time the long way around to skip night by parking my character in a vehicle or my base with a bottle of water and a snack on hand. This is a question of a quality of life improvment - to expand upon the functionality of the bed to provide other time skips in the game.

1) To quip it, it would likely have to go in the head slot replaceing my "make you air last longer mask". To that end I'd just stick with my torch. Unless I'm looking for quartz (and really, when am I not?) then I welcome the dark of night.

2) This would be nice.

In a future update there may be a Sleep feature added to the beds that allows you to sleep through the night. It isn't implemented yet but I saw something in Trello about it.

As for the night goggles, sonar modules sort of compensate for that while reminding you that you are in a dark place that doesn't get much or any light of its own. iI find the flashlight and Seaglide still do a decent job here, though, and you can use the Swim Charge fins with the Seaglide now to give you unlimited Seaglide use.

Beds seem rather inconsistent, sometimes when I sleep in them it turns to daylight. Other times I've slept in them and it just woke me up in the middle of the night and I couldn't just go back to bed.

Though I don't really mind going out in the dark all that much. With the current state of the game, you realize pretty quickly that daylight doesn't help you see much of anything you could not have seen at night.
