self charging power cells in original life pod?
I haven't been playing this game for very long, but I have noticed the three self-charging power cells on the wall of my life pod. How do I get them off?

you cant, there just there so your fabricator doesnt run out of power before you make your own. I know its kind of dumb that you cant use them in other stuff but the way it is

It's an idea I wish was an option. Not from your starting lifepod (having a failesafe fallback is important). But to give us another reason to go after the destroyed lifepods.

The self charging cells themselves are very weak individually. 25 max power, and a very slow recharge rate.

But they would be an amazing benefit for it you just wanted to make a small low impact outpost without crafting an entire thermal generator or something. Enough to keep the lights on and fabricate the occasional object.

Actually... Based on other posts, you *can* remove them by firing the repulsion cannon at them -- however, they don't work as power cells if you do. Note that this is a bug and will likely be fixed.

In any case, there is no way to use a power cell to provide power to a base, so its a moot point.

I wouldn't mind putting six of them in the Cyclops. Even assuming it used the pattern of drain cell one, drain cell two, drain cell three, etc... then you'd never need to remove the cells from the Cyclops to recharge them in your base.

I wouldn't recommend using the shield though. Even sonar would be really expensive.

Maybe the Lifepod's hull has some solar panels fitted under the white, that could explain it.

There always seems to be somebody trying to play that angle to try and downplay them, but they recharge at night too.

Though the real practical option would be planting power transmitters from the auroura after we patch up it's fancy dark matter reactor. Alas, can't do that either.

Alterra, our motto? F*ck you, our tech is magical and prone to exploding!

these self charging cells just hold a fraction of what a normal power cell does. its like 3 of these replace only one regular cell. you can easily drain these by recycling some scrap and make some food. i dont see ho these could be of any use in the cyclops , which sucks them dry in a minute ,

i see them lore wise as low power survival power source, some sort of a isotope heated thermoelectric cell with a capacitor. just enough to keep your fabriator running and power the emergency beacon.
