What to buy? Factorio or Subnautica?
So I have $20 to spend and I am tired of FPS games! I am stuck between buying Factorio (Played Demo and I liked it) Or buying Subnautica?
I want something I will be able to play for more than 30 hours and not get bored. Also would like something with good content as not to get bored quick. What do you guys suggest?

Thanks!

Subnautica is an underwater survival and exploration game set on another planet. Factario is - from what I understand - one of those puzzle games where you manufacture stuff and try to gain a profit of something from doing so. Go for Factario if you like solving puzzles and building contraptions. Go for Subnautica if you like escapist games that have exotic locales and that try to engross you into the life of the character you play.

although i do enjoy subnautica so far, factorio would be my go-to game if i HAD to chose. i've easily sunk 200h or so into factorio, and it doesn't cease to amaze me. you've played the demo, you know what this game is about.

subnautica has stunning visuals and some nice exploration to it. i like the open world and the feeling of solutide it evokes.... unfortunately, it runs like crap on my computer, although im using a mid to high tier rig. it's probably not perfectly optimized as of yet, and i wouldn't ever hold it against the game. it might very well be just an issue on my end.

both games are radically different, and this decision is down to personal preference. if it were my decision, i'd go for factorio. it's just too good to pass up. subnautica is a pretty solid purchase as well, though!

I'd personally go with Factorio if you can stand the type of game it is. PLAY THE DEMO FIRST to se if you'll like it.
Great game with automation, graphics aren't great, but the game runs very well, almost perfectly.

Subnautica on the other hand is the opposite. Great looking game, fun, a lot to do. the issue is the game's stability. Not even like 12 hours in to my first map and i had it crashing and lagging hardcore. over 24 hours in the map and the lag gets unbearable. "clearing cache" fixes the issue for about an hour then it persists again.

So Factorio if you want a polished, slightly resident sleeper game or have friends to play with (coop makes it super fun). Subnautica if you want great graphics and an open world exploarion game, but don't mind lag, crashes, and tons of bugs.
Very personally though, stay away from subnautica... It has a lot of bug squishing to do. Also, try to avoid Early access games.

I should add here that it is very unfortunate for anyone to be comparing Subnautica with pretty much anything else right now. Subnautica is going through an unusually rough phase right now and that isn't entirely due to a lack of optimization. The game has run into some errors with its programming that seriously prohibit its ability to run as well as it was intended to run. All we can really do right now is wait; if you are the patient type then you will put this issue aside and compare Subnautica as the game it was meant to be...but not everyone is the patient type so all we have left to say is to use your best judgement (preferrably after you've done some adequate research).

I am 100% into both games! I agree Factorio is more Puzzle related but Subnautica looks nice! I am sure my 6700k and 16GB RAM and GTX 970 shouldn't have any issues running Subnautica. It can't be worse than Dishonored 2. I see some valid points and some neutral points being stated but nothing to drive me to make a decision.

Yes I played Factorio DEMO and I liked it but I heard the Campaign is only 3-4 hours Long.

For Example on Stardew valley I dumped 150 hours in my first 2 weeks! I want something that will grip me to put down Good hours into it with out being bored, or repetitive or bland.

PS: Not really comparing Apples to Oranges because they both taste good. Subnautica and Factorio are both games I really want but I can't decide which one to (Eat) Get first.

EDIT: I like what flw said! Thank you sir!

If Factario is a true puzzle game then it should have a lot of replayability in a freeform or sandbox mode, if it has one. I prefer survival games myself as long as the locale is intriguing enough for me, but I also have a few puzzle games and what tends to affect their replayability are the amount of options the game gives you and the amount of randomness the game puts you through.
Your rig is good enough to run subnautica at (hopefully) 100+ fps at 1920x1080. I have an i7-5820k and a gtx 970 and i can run it at 110 fps for a while until it degrades through whatever is happening to the game XD (no one really knows atm).

Factorio's campaign is short, howeverm, i really never played it since it's a sandbox factory-like simulator. In "freeplay" (singleplayer/multiplayer) you just have to research a rocket silo and launch a rocket into space with a satelite on it. Take around 24-48 hours depending on how fast and lucky you are. Out of my 200 hours, the game definitely gets repetitive, but if you're into working hard to improve your "factory" and always working harder to achieve more in the game, you can easily clock in hundreds on the game. Especially with the next update being unlimited research. TL;DR: play it for freeplay, not campaign or scenarios (unless your into those things, they're adding a tower defense one next major update).

Subnautica can definitely bring a lot to the table with content. 60 some hours in and i still have A LOT i want to do. Like having the creatures in display tanks for display, improving a base to be as large as possible. Definitely a game worth getting (i got in on sale for $10).

I would honestly try factorio first, as the pricetag will NEVER change (stated by the devs). And the polished game will run spectacularly on your rig where as subnautica will definitely not (at the moment).

Please understand all, im not tring to persuade you to not buy subnautica, just make you aware that the game is pretty unstable. All EA games are like that, but subnautica is FAR worse than any other game i've ever bought in EA.

Edit: forgot to mention after you launch the satellite you can keep playing the game until you get bored or want to play another map with different settings.

Factorio has multiplayer, herpaderp.
Not complaining, just making fun of people who want multiplayer for this game.

Nachoboy350 thanks so much for this feedback on my post, its actually very helpfull and no you are not persuading me in any way possible.
My last question that would come to mind would be..... If Factorio "Freeplay" To complete only takes between 24-48 Hours then how much time does it take for Subnautica to complete? Would Subnautica be shorter or around the same ammount of time?

you're very welcome. just two more quick thoughts on the issue: factorio's campaign and it's lenght are meaningless. the game is primarily played in a sandbox-style random map.

my computer is somewhat similar in strength to yours, and i'm having massive issues with subnautica. i read a bit around and you have to manually clear out some cache folders, which solved the fps drops for me... at least for now, though, because apparently the cache builds up again and needs to be cleared regularly.

i feel a bit awkward discussing this on the subnautica forums, but hey, that's what this thread is and i want to answer honestly. feel free to add me if you care about what some random dude on the internet thinks about it, or if you have any other, more specific questions that'd derail this topic.

D*** It! such a hard choice! So hard! I am almost tempted for Subnautica but I know how good Factorio demo was. If only Factorio was $10 and Subnautica $15...... Sigh I'd get both but I can't drop $40 on 2 games, even though I know I will like BOTH of them. I can only GET 1 game for now and I have to decide which WILL I GET! I am desperate! hahah

I am going to buy one tonight or tomorrow but what do I get? I will eventually end up getting Both no questions asked...... even if its 6 months from now but I only have $20 right now I can spend and can only make 1 choice! Not sure what to get...... Now I am feeling more Factorio.....than Subnautica

Not a clue!

ESG Ramsy.... I feel that way!

If you liked stardew valley i think that you should get factorio
Well subnautica isn't finished yet. I can't even put an estimated time completion yet, as it's only partially done. Most of your playtime will be searching in the ocean looking for new blueprints to go deeper and unlock new vehicles or base additions.

Im not sure how long the story will take once it's finished, as it'll depend on how fast you can find blueprints and the resources to make them. Although it becomes easier because subnautica has only 1 static map which won't change throughout new games. (Once you know where the biomes are in relative location, the game becomes theoretically easier).

Actually, Stardew Valley is a simulation game and simulation games are very close to survival games so if you like Stardew Valley then consider buying Subnautica if only for the immersion aspect.

What other puzzle games do you have? You could use the game type that you are most familiar with as a decisive aspect.

I am going to get BOTH games eventually but I have to wait maybe 3-7 months apart in between before I get the counterpart (The other game) I just can't decide which one to get now and which one to wait for 3-7 months before I get it.

Cast your Votes!
#1) Factorio now
#2) Subnautica now

This is final! The Purchase will be made tonight!
