subnautica has stunning visuals and some nice exploration to it. i like the open world and the feeling of solutide it evokes.... unfortunately, it runs like crap on my computer, although im using a mid to high tier rig. it's probably not perfectly optimized as of yet, and i wouldn't ever hold it against the game. it might very well be just an issue on my end.
both games are radically different, and this decision is down to personal preference. if it were my decision, i'd go for factorio. it's just too good to pass up. subnautica is a pretty solid purchase as well, though!
Great game with automation, graphics aren't great, but the game runs very well, almost perfectly.
Subnautica on the other hand is the opposite. Great looking game, fun, a lot to do. the issue is the game's stability. Not even like 12 hours in to my first map and i had it crashing and lagging hardcore. over 24 hours in the map and the lag gets unbearable. "clearing cache" fixes the issue for about an hour then it persists again.
So Factorio if you want a polished, slightly resident sleeper game or have friends to play with (coop makes it super fun). Subnautica if you want great graphics and an open world exploarion game, but don't mind lag, crashes, and tons of bugs.
Very personally though, stay away from subnautica... It has a lot of bug squishing to do. Also, try to avoid Early access games.
Yes I played Factorio DEMO and I liked it but I heard the Campaign is only 3-4 hours Long.
For Example on Stardew valley I dumped 150 hours in my first 2 weeks! I want something that will grip me to put down Good hours into it with out being bored, or repetitive or bland.
PS: Not really comparing Apples to Oranges because they both taste good. Subnautica and Factorio are both games I really want but I can't decide which one to (Eat) Get first.
EDIT: I like what flw said! Thank you sir!
Factorio's campaign is short, howeverm, i really never played it since it's a sandbox factory-like simulator. In "freeplay" (singleplayer/multiplayer) you just have to research a rocket silo and launch a rocket into space with a satelite on it. Take around 24-48 hours depending on how fast and lucky you are. Out of my 200 hours, the game definitely gets repetitive, but if you're into working hard to improve your "factory" and always working harder to achieve more in the game, you can easily clock in hundreds on the game. Especially with the next update being unlimited research. TL;DR: play it for freeplay, not campaign or scenarios (unless your into those things, they're adding a tower defense one next major update).
Subnautica can definitely bring a lot to the table with content. 60 some hours in and i still have A LOT i want to do. Like having the creatures in display tanks for display, improving a base to be as large as possible. Definitely a game worth getting (i got in on sale for $10).
I would honestly try factorio first, as the pricetag will NEVER change (stated by the devs). And the polished game will run spectacularly on your rig where as subnautica will definitely not (at the moment).
Please understand all, im not tring to persuade you to not buy subnautica, just make you aware that the game is pretty unstable. All EA games are like that, but subnautica is FAR worse than any other game i've ever bought in EA.
Edit: forgot to mention after you launch the satellite you can keep playing the game until you get bored or want to play another map with different settings.
Not complaining, just making fun of people who want multiplayer for this game.
My last question that would come to mind would be..... If Factorio "Freeplay" To complete only takes between 24-48 Hours then how much time does it take for Subnautica to complete? Would Subnautica be shorter or around the same ammount of time?
you're very welcome. just two more quick thoughts on the issue: factorio's campaign and it's lenght are meaningless. the game is primarily played in a sandbox-style random map.
my computer is somewhat similar in strength to yours, and i'm having massive issues with subnautica. i read a bit around and you have to manually clear out some cache folders, which solved the fps drops for me... at least for now, though, because apparently the cache builds up again and needs to be cleared regularly.
i feel a bit awkward discussing this on the subnautica forums, but hey, that's what this thread is and i want to answer honestly. feel free to add me if you care about what some random dude on the internet thinks about it, or if you have any other, more specific questions that'd derail this topic.
I am going to buy one tonight or tomorrow but what do I get? I will eventually end up getting Both no questions asked...... even if its 6 months from now but I only have $20 right now I can spend and can only make 1 choice! Not sure what to get...... Now I am feeling more Factorio.....than Subnautica
Not a clue!
ESG Ramsy.... I feel that way!
Im not sure how long the story will take once it's finished, as it'll depend on how fast you can find blueprints and the resources to make them. Although it becomes easier because subnautica has only 1 static map which won't change throughout new games. (Once you know where the biomes are in relative location, the game becomes theoretically easier).
What other puzzle games do you have? You could use the game type that you are most familiar with as a decisive aspect.
Cast your Votes!
#1) Factorio now
#2) Subnautica now
This is final! The Purchase will be made tonight!
