EDIT: I forgot to add that im pretty sure that it has Co-op. I could be wrong tho
Ark looks interesting, wasn't sure how the multiplayer/co-op etc worked on it will have to have a look into it more.
Never heard of Osiris, I'll take a look.
Real shame Subnautica won't get co-op, maybe they can make a sequal one day :)
The devs are actually making it as a game they can play with their kids, so it's pretty engaging and inspiring without being freaky or violent. It seems to be one of the few brilliant things in life that works for both adults and children.

i think you can play the forest in peaceful mode, but it might get a bit boring :) i agree with you, subnautica screams for multiplayer / co-op.
have you considered Space Engineers ?
Astroneer sounds interetsing will take a look, and space engineers is another I had overlooked, thanks for that :)
Steam has a 2 hour refund policy, so you can try ark out on kids pc. They have a LOT of options you can tweak. You guys, if you have a really powerful computer can run andedicated game, so you all play together, but cannot go very far from the "host" player.
Or you can rent your own server for a really cheap cost, or join someone elses unofficial server.
I run 2 ark servers and i am by FAR not a super geek. But most of the companies you rent from have quick access panel editors to change your server settings, and editing the server settings using the files editor, is basically just copy and paste to a note on your computer. VERY EASY to do.
My computor is very beefy, the kids are lower mid range, I have had servers before for Battle field and stuff so i am good with all that :)
Never had a refund from steam for anything before, wasn't sure how easy it was?
also check out Ace of spades, it's more minecraft looking, mixed with battlefield and other fun gamemodes, not sure how many people play it today because the game came out some time ago, but it can be really fun to play with friends / family
Scratch that, it seems like Ace of spades is dead, havent played it for some time lol.. i see in the storepage that it has alot of negative reviews so i guess that the devs ruined it somehow
The Forest is coop but it is um...well...awful really. Natives are pure bumbling idiots to this day and glitches abound. I have so many screenshots of glitches in that game it is ridiculous.
Space Engineers is coop but the MP portion of the game is terrible and lags like mad. The MP has been broken for a long time and it suffers from a ton of 'catch-up' issues where weird stuff happens. That game has a boat load of issues and is only getting worse each time they 'update' it b/c they rarely, if ever, address the real issues and just keep making small touches to things no one cares about. Not abandoned...but not in a good place.
ARK is fun in coop if you run a server but the game, for me, is not that great. I don't want to tame a dinosaur for 3 real in-game hours just to have it get killed by some other dino 5 minutes later. I call ARK the world's best berry picking simulator ever built b/c that is all you will be doing when you start. People seem to love it but my friends and I abandoned it shortly after buying it after playing on the free weekend.
7D2D is survival but likely won't be out of Early Access long after I'm 6 foot under. The game is fun but the updates they keep making to it are making it worse. Crafting and gathering has become too much of a grind. Friends and I sunk 300+ hours into it but most of this was trying out the new builds to see what they had only to find out...not much different than before. After this last update I permanently removed it from my library and have lost faith in their ability to deliver anything more that I would be interested in. But it is good for coop and you might like it so YMMV.
Don't Starve Together is another survival game that has coop and it is very good coop if you like the core gameplay. It is a pretty fun game, albeit tough and unforgiving and you will die a lot and have to start over. But the coop is great and is well thought out and polished. It kind of started the whole survival thing here on Steam.
There are a ton more like this on Steam. Go to the advanced search and you can sort by coop and survival and the list will be quite lengthy.
