My Discord Server is Being Harassed

EDIT: After some research, one of the admins of the server posted an invite link that was snatched up by a spam bot and is being spread in fake Steam Support emails or something. I revoked the invite link and hopefully that solved the problem. A word of warning to others in a similar situation: Be very cautious about spreading non-expiring links for discord!

People keep coming into my small discord server, and asking for a refund for this game. They have all claimed that Steam officially sent them there but my server has absolutely nothing to do with Steam or Unknown Worlds.

I try to tell them they are in the wrong place and they start to get argumentative with me because Steam sent them there and why would Steam be lying to them. It takes like a half hour per person to convince them to leave, or to follow the link to the official discord.

Does anyone know if Steam actually forwards people to discord for support? or am I being trolled? Should I just auto ban these people or what.

I assume you are beeing trolled by some idiots. Steam has its own support mechanism. I never heard of a voicechat tool beeing involved till now.

I assumed that as well, but once i got a few of them to calm down, they dropped their trolly attitude and were just calmly discussing the situation with me. And they were adamant about Steam sending them there. Really weird situation and im trying to figure it out.

I asked them for a link but they said it was through the refund system on steam and the links were private. Claiming it was a tech support person communicating with them

also what would auto ban accomplish if the person sending these fake steam support emails does it again and again? i suggest you contact steam about the issue and see what comes of it.

If your server is public, and can be found on the Discord server lists, it will get trolled. There are several people who posted theirserver links on Reddit on the Subnautica subreddits. All it takes is one troll who knows how to create a bot to post links, and your link is everywhere.

And it's not that hard for keyboard kiddies to do.

Take your Discord down, and make a new one. A private one. And don;t auto add anyone you do not know personaly, or well. One link. anywhere. Facebook, reddit, twitter, VK, Tumblr, Instagram... and it is EVERYWHERE.

Steam/Valve would not direct people to your Discord. But a keyboard kiddie who thinks it's funny to use a spam bot...

I am fairly sure I have never posted a direct link to my server anywhere on the internet. It is a public server though. And I know everyone on the server and I don't think they would do this either. Maybe I'm wrong

Yep, i would also suggest the route with least cost/time/effort: Shut your old one down, make a new one. Only tell your friends.

Well, for what it's worth: If you create the new one, keep it private, and have only your friends again, and if THEN it starts again: Rethink some friendships. I sincerely hope that this is not the case though.

Actually i think, with the new discord server the problem will be resolved and all is fine.

Me too. I have accounts, but they are all completely private, use one off emails, and aren;t used to post. anything. Ever. Just to look around. Only public profile I have is here, and even that is a huge risk with all of the security holes Steam has.

I generally don't use social media either. I do use reddit, and i do most of my socializing on discord. Never had this problem before but I guess someone needs to be more careful cause I know it wasn't me.

nothing is ever 100% protected. you can't know for certain anything, even friends.

from my way of seeing things a friend is someone you know but never to be trusted, you can't know everything about them no matter how well you get along with them. you can only keep an eye on them and see if there is a cause for concern or not, either way not letting your guard down can be useful when staying objective.

as for the private server, it's your best choice to stay off the grid but if there is a mole in the server, best to watch all the comments and pick them apart in your own time.

Oh my god, you were totally right. One of the other admins of the server posted the link publicly on reddit. Everything you are saying makes total sense. I guess I will have to have a talk with him
