Bioreactor over Alien Containment?
I heard that if you build a Bioreactor over an Alien Containment, it should draw organic matter (aka poor fish) from it and convert it into power. I did that but the reactor is not working. It just says "Inactive" on the screen. Do I have to manually put the fish into it every single time in order to make it work?

I've never heard of a bioreactor grabbing fish from Alien Containment. So it was long before I started playing, scheduled for later on, or just wishful thinking by some.

You need to put in your organic matter into the panel's inventory slots.

Yeah.
No.

Whoever told you that was either trolling you, or has no clue what they are talking about. You have to put the organic matter in manually.

Oh all right, thanks. It's a bit bothersome to have to put it in every time. I hope it will last long enough.

That will depend on what you put into it. I've heard reginalds and cured reginald last a really long time. Also, how much power draw you have will matter. If you're putting in lots of chargers, water filtration, etc., then it's going to constantly draw power. Whatever your first power supply you built will be drained first and it will continue dowwn the line so if the bioreactor is built after 7 solar panels it won't be so bad. If it's first, you'll be checking it a lot.

Thanks, that was helpful. I will try to fine tune these aspects then. Btw, I see no reason for not making the base solar-panels dependent only (In low waters where the sun reaches). Am I right?

If you can get solar panels to work, use them. They're my first build for power since they require nothing. They won't recharge at night, but that's fine with me. I typically make some verticle tubes going up to a cross piece and put 6 on that. I might even build a corridor off it and add more if I'm doing a lot of water filtration and things like that. Thermal is the next, if you have a plaace warm enough, use it. You can use power transmitters if the place is too far for the plant to reach your base. I've even used a few in suboptimal areas and they worked great in conjunction with solar panels so I never needed anything else. Nuc and Bios will need to be fed. Bios are slow to produce energy, but so easy to find organic matter. Nucs produce much faster energy but you need to slowly replace those rods.

Thank you for the comprehensive replies, really appreciated. I will follow your advices. Cheers!

You also can hatch eggs of larger Fauna (Sandshark,Ampeel, etc.) in the alien containment tanks and stuff them into the bio reactor.

I would suggest a trip to the mushroom forest and searching for Jellyray eggs for starters, drop two (you need at least two of the same fish for them to reproduce) inside the tank and wait till they hatch then let them reproduce and always leave two in the tank, put the rest in the reactors.

Next step would be to search the Koosh zone for Ampeel eggs, same procedure, they will yield the highest power output if I recall right. :)

Find some stalker eggs and let them hatch in containment, use those to fuel the reactor. One stalker will output something like 800 power before it's eaten completely by the reactor. You'll want to double stack your containment room to make sure they have enough room to breed.

Also, if you want something easier than hatching eggs, use floaters. They give 200 power each.

Oh chinese potato might be viable, you could place a grow bed next to the reactor and fill it with taters. I think they give 75 energy each but the stuff grows so fast as long as you replant it that it would be a limitless energy source.

Get the large lightning eels, 4 of those in a bio-reactor last a very long time :)

Bio-reactor fuel? Reginalds. All the way. Especially once you get a fish farm going. I can throw in 16 Reginalds and be good for at least 6-8 hours straight gameplay without any concern. ^_~
