Best place for a base <900m in the Lost River entrances?
Where would you say is the best for a base in the lost river?

why settle for an entrance when there is plenty of space in the lost river itself?

Forgot that only ILZ is >900m editing question soon.

near a black smoker either in the junction or the tree cove, easy energy for recharging all the power lava larvae drain from the cyclops

how the cuss do you get a cyclops down there...

also i made a base at the end that connects to the lava zone... ther's a cool 'waterfall' there and it's within spitting distance of hot enough water to run nothign but thermal plants and have free infinite energy. (currently at 12 thermals and running everything with powergen to spare)

Guiding the cyclops through the lost river from the blood kelp forest isn't that bad. I find it rather easy, but you need to pay attention and go slow at times. You can mark off navigtional spots with beacons if you have trouble. The only part that requires a bit of awareness is the ghost forest but you can get throughh that without getting caught. Sometimes it helps to walk around in the prawn or take out the seamoth first to get feel for it. and learn the terrain.

Go to life pod 2, enter the giant cave entrance, follow to the rear, dive down the waterfall and you are now deep in the lost river biome. Easiest way for me as the lifepod gets its own "beacon".

Absolutely. I mark that off with a beacon so I don't have to wear the signal and I know how to align my cyclops and where to descend, It's so easy right there. Plus you can gather a bunch of resources in tht nice little runway.

I made one in the junction with the small skeleton right before you go on into the Cove tree room. There a 3 white smokers with room for a lot of thermal plants. Also there is a nice plateau on the side ..if you built there, your base shouldn't be in the way of aggressive fauna.

It's also perfect for me since it's right at the point where you come down with the cyclops from NBK, and it's right above 900m ..so you can build a moonpool for the Seamoth, leave your cyclops at this base for ILZ & ALZ exploration and travel from the lost river to the rest of subnautica with the Seamoth for errands & stuff (which I prefer).

Thanks for this advice! (better late than never :) )

I'll try to build another base there. Is there a diff between white and black smoke chemnys?

The cove tree room has plenty of space above 900m for a moonpool and to park any vehicle (other than a non-upgraded prawn). The 900m limit might be a limit for your Seamoth and Mk1 Cyclops, but it's not a limit for you, as a player.

Otherwise the junction (with the 3 waterfalls) is fine. There's a smoker right next to the sea dragon skeleton too.

The center of it, there is even a thermal plant place over there.

However I am more of a fan of making my base at the top of the lava castle.
