Did the Precursors ever leave the planet?
Or did they all die there?

Also, did the Alterra build that Phasegate? Is that how the player get back home?
some of the precursors made it of the planet

Carcar may have originated on the planet, but precursors seem to have been a very widespread alien race, that all did end up wiped out by carcar

I don't think it originated on 4546b, based on in game alien data downloads sounds more like they brought it to this world study it and try to find a cure.

Most of them died but atleast 5% of them were able to escape

I've been studying the wiki a bit. Lorewise the carar is not a native bacteria to the planet, the precursors chose to study it there. They took the dragon leviathans eggs for study, and the leviathan attacked the base, causing a containment breach. The precursors were already suffering a mass extinction event from the carar. Seemingly they died there, the data files you find say that personnel were transferred to on-world sanctuaries, likely the other caches we find. When the dragon leviathan attacked and caused the breach it activated the quarantine, the turret was activated at that point so leaving doesn't seem likely. However we also find a data log stating why we don't find their corpses or skeletons, they transfer their conciousness to a machine but destroy the body.

TL;DR version: pretty sure they all died on the planet.

I see. I do wonder if the slingshot around the planet is to build the phasegate or to return home after rescuing the survivors of the Degasi.

As far as I can tell, neither...the crew logs on the aurora (mostly between engineers) discuss how they are incredibly bored waiting to be able to build the gate, and most of the crew was unaware of the degasi surviors, so I would doubt they managed to rescue them.

so we rocket up back home in a few thousand years or we go to the moon and maybe meet some precursors?

I wonder why it was able to kill off so many creatures so quickly, and how mabey the previos mass extinction that is hinted at and the emporer's extreme resistance may all tie in

there is a transmission we get where it states that the aurora sent environmental data off-world and they send the schematic for the rocket base to help you leave the planet. They say that they believe the schemtic they sent can be constructed with materials found on the world and should be capable of getting our survivor back to the nearest phasegate (which is apparently an 18 month trip if you go by other logs)

but you would die of carcar before then, and then your corpse would infect humans, wiping us from existance, and that would be kind of bad

no, to be able to leave the planet you will need to cure yourself of the carar (the actual cure is not yet in game) so that you can deactivate that giant sentry gun that shot the aurora down. An infected being can not deactivate the weapon, and the weapon is meant to shoot down anything entering or exiting the orbit so the infection does not leave the planet

no worries, it's easy to forget when it isn't actually in the game yet lol
