When to worry about warpers

I've been wodnering what causes the warper(s) to start showing up everywhere basically hunting the player.

As far as I'm aware, but never seen it myself, its a result of having a more severe case of the disease, caused by eating infected fish.

I've only eaten "healthy" fish for the first hour and headed to the island to get Lantern Fruit and other seeds to supply myself with non-aquatic food (yes, I got there with the Seaglide), yet I always have a Warper near me when I'm in the not-so-cozy biomes.

Hmm I guess I haven't really explored the risky biomes, I've been in the mushroom forest, koosh zone, the glowing purple mushroom area (with the snake things) but that's about it so far. I've not even had to deal with Reaper Leviathans yet.

The warpers don't attack you until you trigger a certain event I think, can't remember what but you'll get a message that talks about a new "subject" and about termination of the subject.

Warpers will smack the piss out of you if you get to close to them. Diseased or not.

Yeah I know, I'm just wondering why I haven't met any despite already having cyclops, prawn and seamoth.

As far as I'm aware, warpers only appear when you enter certain areas, they seem to be scripted and are always static in their appearance.
They don't actually hunt you, they just warp in when you cross that certain zone and then they keep patrolling there.

Out of curiosity, can they still snag you out of a vehicle? Because that was pretty annoying. (and kind of unrealistic.)

I do know they CAN warp you out of seamoth and prawn 404 not out of the cyclops, and it's not that unrealistic though I personally think the vehicle should warp with you
