Taming Stalkers

So I know you can tame them with fish, but how do you hold scrap metal to tame them?

I've tried assigning it to my hotkey but it dosn't look like im actually holding the metal and the stalker is still trying to kill me when I have it out (floating in front of me when used from hotbar)

taming isn't a thing. only way to have them as pets it to put their eggs in an alien containment tank

taming is a thing, albeit temporarily. If you hold a fish in your hands near a stalker (they like peepers best) they wont attack you for a while and even bring you scraps. Supposily you can do this with scraps as well and they will drop teeth ( propably from chewing on scraps )

Same thing with scrap metal; you put the scrap metal in your hotbar by assigning a number key to it and then you just press that number to hold it out. The nice thing about scrap metal is that it can occupy a Stalker for quite a while.

So since I was doing that, I assume the one stalker I was trying this on was just an a$$hole?

It might not have taken the fish or scrap metal out of your hand. Or maybe you were too late. They are supposedly able to take fish right out of your hand without you having to do anything but I don't know if that is true because I have only tried scrap metal and I always drop it, which usually works.

I'll try dropping it since leaving it float just ends up with me loosing a pound of flesh.

If you want a "tame" stalker, get an egg and hatch it in your alien containment and then release it outside your base.

Your hand has to be facing the stalker so you can shove it into it's mouth. Otherwise it will bite you instead.

More specificly place the item in your hotbar equip and release it towards the stalker (this is what I had to do apparently)

No, I never release it, just point my hand with the object into the stalkers mouth and they take it from me.

Didn't seem to work for me, you "hold it" by using it from your hotbar right?

Yes. You will see it in tour hand.

I don't see it in my hand, just floating in front of me, I can move it but there is no hand on the scrap.
