BIOS = basic informatiom operating system
Are you using an External monitor? If not, I had this issue on my laptop, I had to use the drivers from the laptop manufacturer rather than the latest drivers from nVidia to make it work right.
For JC2, the ONLY thing that worked for me to force the game to use the Nvidia board and not the built-in Intel graphics was to get a utility called "Nvidia Inspector" (do a google search). I'm afraid you will have to do some research in the forums for that utiliity to find the correct settings to tweak, but that might actually get you going. For JC2 I had to change a setting called "Enable application for Optimus" to a specific setting before it would use the Nvidia board. I just looked in the program and there is a sub-section in the settings for Subnautica, so it may be worth trying.
Nvidia really threw a wrench in the works when they went to the Optimus drivers - they have gone the way of Windows by hiding a lot of settings that you need to be able to adjust to make things actually work right sometimes. That's maybe why YugenChaos was able to get things working right using the manufacturer's driver instead of the Nvidia driver.
1) launching NVIDIA Control Panel,
2) selecting the "Manage 3D settings" task in the sidebar,
3) selecting the "Program Settings" tab,
4) clicking the "Add" button,
5) selecting the Subnautica executable (may be in the recently used programs list, otherwise click the "Browse..." button and navigate to "[your steam library]\SteamApps\common\Subnautica" and select "subnautica.exe"
Alternatively, you *could* change the preferred graphics processor to the NVIDIA GPU in the "Global Settings" tab and have everything that can run on the NVIDIA GPU by default instead of the Intel GPU.
uninstall drivers from nVidia. Install drivers from Laptop Manufacturer, even if they are an older version. Completely fixed my issues on my Asus with 940mx
I mean... does anyone remember in Half-Life (1) where you could and had to chose the right video-card, in options?
Software (CPU)
DirectX
OpenGL
3dfx Voodoo
Those were the days.
And when games support different standards they still do give you the option to select between DirectX, OpenGL or Vulkan.
Im pretty sure BIOS actually stands for "Basic Input Output System"
Well done.
