they look like quartz,but smaller
i suggest you to go at night because they "glow" and are the only things that u can see

From your starting point go south until you find a kelp forest with a giant scar
go into the scar and go down
keep going that way(it's about 200-350 meters deep) and you should find some very small crystals(AOC) and a wreckage in which you can find the moonpool fragments(you need the laser cutter, rebreather is optional but VERY helpful)

the grand reef has some, but your best bet is the sea treader caves, those things are slam packed with em.

Grand Reef, go pretty deep. Also, Lost River. Aluminium Oxide is a small red crystal.

Follow the radio plot lines to lifepod 19 and the game will gently guide you towards your goal of finding the more exotic metals with a bare minimum of being accidentally eaten by a leviathan during your travels.

sorry i'm technically "necroing" this post, but I wanted to ask where the co-ordinates are to this kelp "Scar"? South leads directly to the back engines of the aurora and I don't want to be ambushed by a bunch of reapers on my way, so if you could help me that would be awesome, it also needs to apply for a may 9th, 2016 build if that's alright. :KSmiley:

The big ship is to the east of the map, not the south. Yes, where the sun sets is confusing but that's alien planets for you.

If you have found the floating island (which "is" south of the safe shallows) then you just need to go strait down from that (though mind the really big glowing thing that's also normally below it, you don't want to get close to it).

If you find an area that's full of blueish floating balls in an area that looks all purple you're in the right area for ruby (which is what you're now looking is called these days).

1. I did not ask you 2. I'm not new to this I know the grand reef 3. the BACK of the aurora is to the south, and they said south of the starting area, and i'm going EXACTLY SOUTH, and that leads to the engines, the way to the floating island is South West, you clearly don't know what I or he is talking about. Also, he never said ANYTHING about the SUN and neither did I. Sorry to be mean but thinking "Finally co-ordinates!" and getting that, where that area has very little rubies is just.... Grr

The coordinates should be -311.7, 0.7, -653.5
The middle number depends on your depth, just keep going down.
Keep in mind that they're rarer than before so you will probably not find that many

The deep sparse reef has tons of aluminum oxide. Look for small trenches underneath the floating island.

thank you both, you were very helpful. Have a lovely day! Though I know what the middle co-ordinate is, it was nice of you to clarify :P
