Where is the easiest place to get the Multipurpose room from?
I was about to return to Mountain Island, but when I went there in creative to scout stuff out, I accidentally fell in the water, and found a leviathan swimming beneath the island, so that ruins all chances of me going back.

Are there any easy ways to find the multipurpose room, or power cell charger?

If you look towards the south, or opposite of the rear of the Aurora...the Floating Island should be shrouded in a barely visible, yet conspicuous-looking "cloud", or mist. It's in about the 7 o' clock direction, south of the Lifepod you start in. It's a long swim, but it's by far one of the easiest ways to knock out a lot of scans you'll need for the future. Bulkhead, Multi-purpose Room, Indoor/Outdoor Growbeds, etc. Those along with a Purple Artifact you'll need later.

I guess if that's the only way, I'll have to brave Le Leviathan. Maybe if I bring some coffee he'll be amiable.

Once I get the artifact, should I use it on the gun gate on that island, or should I hold onto it for something more important?

There's another free purple artifact on a hill just overlooking the gun gate, and another one or two inside of the building if you come in with at least two. It's perfectly okay to use the one on the gate, though you'll have to leave that area after you reach the end of it anyway for a certain reason.

Aside that, there's no risk of running into any reapers on your way to the floating island or the mountain surface. Especially so if you swim at the surface. If you bring a knife with you, there are plenty of Bulbo trees to cut fruit from to eat, so you can stay there a while as well to explore.

Would probably be a better idea to go to the island with the alien-gun instead of swimming to the floating island directly. There's a 'special way' (teleporter) to get to the floater island from there and back.

I've heard of teleporters, but where do I find them? The only one I know about is in the cave.

Seriously, i don't understand your aversion to looking things up by yourself. It's faster and easier than waiting for someone to serve you all the information on a plate.

Oh, just arrived at the blood kelp. As long as I can evade these shockers, I should be able to get it.
