Does the virus eventually kill you?
The wiki says that carar will kill you in 5 weeks time. Does that mean we have a limited amount of playing time for every play-through? Or is that just for story lore?

Right now it's only visual, this might change later on.

For now, since the game is in early access and its end is still in developpement, you don't have to worry about the virus killing you.

After 1.0, I do hope it's just for story lore. Nothing has been annouced by the devs but I would hate to race against the clock past this point.

In the future it might

ive heard about a possible 5 week countdown to cure yourself, but think that will only happen when you progress deep in to the story. both of which are not yet implemented.

the problem is that the day night speed is to fast. 5 weeks in this game is nothing

A race against time would be a terrible game mechanic for an exploration and survival game.

I think it will be more like "Hurry Link, you must save the princess!" and then you spend a month collecting Korok seeds for no particular reason. Same sort of thing here. "Your infected, you must heal yourself quick!"

I really hope i'm not foced to rush the game because of a virus.

there's no real story content built around the virus right? i mean no real way to find the source or cure it? so it would be moronic for it to actually hurt you. pretty sure just cosmetic at this point

If a countdown does occur, it might be planned for late game when it is assumed you've seen mostly all there is to see. But keep in mind Subnautica also has a Creative Mode. I am willing to bet Freedom Mode and Survival Mode eventually get merged into Story Mode and Creative Mode gets turned into Sandbox Mode with survival and hardcore features being added as optional features you can toggle on or off at the start of the game.

As i understood it, you have to get to that alien research lab and find a cure for the virus in order to disable the giant gun which prevents you from beeing rescued...in one of the alien data downloads the lab is mentioned with some sort of coordinates, but i haven´t found it yet.

If you read the PDA information on the virus after getting it in the Lost River Precursor base, you'll notice that it eventually leads to death. So yes, you will die in the future if you don't get immunity from the Sea Emperor.

If you don't play messages from escape pod or scan yourself, your infection level stays minimal and game is much easier (at some point you'll have to go through Lost River to Lava Fields to get resources for the best upgrades and gear, and if you haven't triggered the infection yet, Warpers leave you alone. If you trigger the infection story, those bastards are lethal and in late infectio nstages actively hunt you)

How much self-scanning is too much scanning?
