Does the Rebreather actually do anything?
The moment i'm out of oxygen I drown.
I figured,
that the Rebreather would alow you to last longer then 3 seconds after the Oxygen was gone.

The rebreather helps negate the oxygen penalty at lower depths. If you go deep you'll see you use more O2 per second, the rebreather helps stop that so your O2 lasts longer.

When diving less than 100m, you will consume one unit per second. Diving between 100m and 200m the consumption rate is three units per second. When diving deeper than 200m, the consumption is five units per second.

The rebreather[subnautica.wikia.com] negates this penalty but obviously, you cannot equip it in irradiated zones without taking damage.

Without the rebreather, living in the grand reef wouldn't be so grand.
