Markiplier is popular because he's so goofy/hyper and has a very recognizable voice and personality. That's something the younger demographic really loves. Same for PewDiePie.

BTW, what is with his seemingly new videos where he's acting like he's never seen a Reaper before, doesn't know how to play the game or where anything is? Did I read the date wrong? He's had like, half a dozen or more Subnautica series but all of a sudden he doesn't know about the big monster that's been there for a year? Who is that act for?

It's all for show. Mark is actually a sensible and well-grounded guy but he is a people-person and he knows his audience well.

Personally I find him kind of annoying to watch, and not terribly informative, relative to folks like JackSepticEye or IGP, for example. And... not all that handsome to look at (the hair is a bit much, man, come on, grow up). But... [sigh]. A decoration is a decoration. Guess I'd better gas up the Seamoth...

His series has been going on for quite some time. Over a year. First episode is dated Dec. 25th 2015.

These days Markiplier doesnt put on an act likem he did a few years ago. He has since evolved and those are his genuine reactions. I only know this cause I sometimes act the same way when I play lol

Here is an example.

The developers will be very interested in seeing that video, OJ. I can only imagine what new players are thinking when this happens.

Not just young people, I'd say I'm actually a little older than Markiplier and I find his goofy but charismatic nature and innocent do-gooder outlook to be refreshing, he's fun to watch.

That said, I'm a little disappointed with the in-game bobblehead ruining his voice. I mean, it's clearly based off him and added with his permission, should've just used something closer to the real deal. It doesn't sound remotely like him.

+1. I'm four years older than him and I still watch his and Sean's videos. In fact, it was their videos that convinced me to get Subnautica.

Can't really stand Pewdiepie tho.

Personally, I like Think Noodle's videos better. He never curses, family friendly and comes at it like he's really living on the planet. Check him out if you haven't allready.

I used to watch PewdiePie. His recent ordeal with Fiveer was a complete turn off for me. He encouraged people from another country to say something antisemetic regardless of the consequences.

Racism and discrimination are NEVER allowed to be jokes in the way he did it. I dont care how much someone tries to justify it, it is still insenitive and immoral. The same thing happens in high school where the popular kids make the other kids do horrible things because those kids are literally desparate to be included.

I saw that sort of thing happen every day at my old high school. There was this group of girls who would always take advantage of this one kid. They said they would may him $5 if he picked up a cigarette butt off the ground and eat it. Anbd when he did it, they didn't give him the money obviously. It was completely disgusting.

People like that are wastes of space. I dont care how many subscribers he has, or how much money he makes (which on YouTube is probably a big fat ZERO since his content will probably never be family/advertiser friendly) there is NEVER an excuse for exploiting other peoples ignorance.

Honestly I never understood why he bothered to upload that video. Had he just been smart enough to not upload it he could've avoided all the drama. I don't like watching him very much. I do like watching Mark. In fact, his first subnautica ep was when I first learned it existed.

Is there a different way to use racism and discrimination as a joke?

Stop your trolling. Stop trying to derail my threads. You do this on EVERY thread I make. You are so immature and need to grow up. The point of that reply was to emphasize that what he did was wrong.

It isn't funny.

Reported.

Technically you can get away with telling "inside jokes." That is, a black comedian can make fun of other black people and a Jewish comedian can make fun of other jews, and I've heard female comedians use the "B" and "W" words countless numbers of times, but those kinds of jokes shouldn't be made across demographics, which is where I think a lot of people tend to get confused. Can doing the former be called Racism? I don't know. But you don't go very far trying to stop people from doing it.

Professional comedians write jokes as a profession.

PewdiePie is not a paid comedian, he is not taking special care to make a joke that is slightly off color. He chose a pair of men who to the average viewer would appear as middle eastern, and he told them to say "death to all jews". That is not a joke. Putting someone else at risk like he did was also screwed up. He got their account banned, then got banned 3 times himself as well as his PayPal account got banned, all for spreading an antisemetic message. It doesnt matter what his intent was. He should have known better than to do such a thing since he has had similar issues in the past with this sort of thing. He makes so many blatantly sexist and racist jokes in his videos and it is sickening. That website just like a million others has an agreement we all sign to conduct ourselves in a specific manner. He violated that agreement and should learn from his mistakes.
