The GTX 980M for laptops; will it work?
I was thinking about purchasing an HP Spectre as a portable gaming laptop, and customizing it to max performance. I was reading about the recommended performance requirements for this game and stumbled into a problem. The recommended graphics card was a GTX 550 TI, made for desktop computers. Coming to now, I am confused on whether a GTX 980M would be worse than a GTX 550 TI. I have examined the speculations of each, and came up with nothing. Help please?

The GTX 980M is the mobile version, but it should be several generations better than the 550 TI, even though it is the desktop version. It should work just fine.

You'll be fine. A GTX 980M completely smokes a GTX 550 Ti.

Alright. Thank you guys so much! I was concerned for a second that I wouldn't be able to run it. Now I bring up more questions; is there a way I can get the 980 by itself and not a part of another laptop, and will the 980 even fit inside an HP Spectre, considering its really thin size?

Keep in mind that the game has yet to be optimized for any type of rig be it good or bad. So you may still end up with stuttering or lag issues. Optimization will be happening before the game is released.

@Lucki I understand, I was thinking about playing the early access, and I am fine with lag issues. I just don't want them to be incredibly terrible and hard to manage.

will work fine on a GTX 980M @ 2560x1440. (MSI dominator pro GT72S - I7 6820HK - 32 G RAM - NV GTX 980M ) you ll have some lags do to the optimization not being complete yet, but smooth once the biome is loaded.
Also important, a SSD will also help a lot for smooth gaming.
