Steel and FS need what?
what does Meteorite Ore and Mystery Ore have to do with Steel??? like several recipes for mid to endgame mats are just crazy. the Devs need to look at established games and get this fixed.

It contains the Nickel and chrome needed to make Steel, you only need one of the two.

Just farm the west POI in vulcano.

where are the nickel and chrome nodes? i didn't see that in the recipe.... how about Mystery Ore, what is that?

No I mean for steel you need nickel/ chrome this is in the meterotie ores in this game. Hence why you need one of the two.

If you mean mysterious <alloy, fiber, leather, crystal, magnet>, those are materials mainly needed for enhanced steel armor, weapons and tools. The mysterious metal chunks you can use as a substitute for meteorite ore in order to craft steel ingots.

how do you know this?
He doesn't. He's just making stuff up. Nickle and Chrome are needed for "STAINLESS" steel.

All you need for steel is iron and carbon. Yes, this game is a little messed up in that fashion, as you use that to make plain iron....

It's just a game mechanic man, don't sweat it. Just farm up the required mats and go with it.

you're just making this stuff up right? mysterious ore has what in it? these guys have portals and can't call the Ores by proper names?
Just go with it bro. :) Stop trying to figure out WHY they call stuff what it is.
To make Steel, you need Iron Ingots + meteorite - OR - mysterious metal chunk (dungeon loot). Period.
No reason, that's just what you need.

Actually steel is made from alot of different types of minerals/ore. Iron being the highest percentage. but the carbon is usually blown away to a lower percentage. depending on the tensil strength and other properties required. iron itself usually has more carbon in it than steel does. there is typically more nickle and chrome in steel than carbon.

I'm not sure what you mean, there is no mysterious ore, do you mean meteorite ore? To craft steel you need 3 requirements; iron ingots, coking coal, and meteorite ore OR mysterious metal chunk.

No, it doesn't. Plain carbon steel has two elements in it. Iron and Carbon. Yea, there can be trace elements of a few other elements (like silicon, copper?), but none you mentioned.

Chromium and Nickle are ONLY used in STAINLESS steel. Believe what you want. ;)

The only difference between iron and steel is the amount of carbon in it. Steel has less, as you pointed out. And the way it is made.

Same for me.

I've been running the game from a local server (my own PC) for about a month. Big fun for me. Just running it single-player doesn't allow the console, which I like to use in solo play.

Cheers!

dude I use to work at a foundry and run an AOD machine. there is alot of differant types of steel. stainless is one and yes it typically has more chrome and nickle in it. but just iron and carbon does not make steel.

The process of producing steel from iron ore and/or scrap. In steelmaking, impurities such as nitrogen, silicon, phosphorus, sulfur and excess carbon (the most important impurity) are removed from the sourced iron, and alloying elements such as manganese, nickel, chromium, carbon and vanadium are added to produce different grades of steel.

Ya I won't argue, but thought the question to OP was funny so i added it, I used to work as a quality engineer did a lot of PMI testing and Rockwell testing, I was a sucker for finding to hard metal gaskets where i worked. Wich was crucial to never leave the warehouse, cause a too hard metal gasket coul ruin a 10M USD flange and pipe fitting.
