I would run into stutter ever so often, FPS would be sitting firm at 40 when it occurred, otherwise would run at 60. It was *really* annoying too, take 2 steps, pause, 2 steps, pause, etc. Normally runs really smooth, though I tuned down shadows and foliage simply because I don't care about either (also lets me finally notice aloe patches).

But regardless what I did to dial up performance, the stutter would remain. Tried shutting down the game and restarting it, wouldn't make a difference. However what did work was restarting the PC itself, so not sure what's going on with Windows but doing that clears up the stutter.

I have not, however, run into any combat lag, that has been very smooth and fluid, at least till the stutter would begin. The stutter seems to happen randomly too, a couple of times it'd happen around 20 mins into the game, and other times I could play for hours without seeing it at all.
I suggest you use an App as Hardware INfo 64
the app is free and just load sensors when you run it to check the temps of your GPU.

Might just be a case of the GPU needing a bit of a clean. Could be a lot of dust collected on it and that keeps the heat in and can result in stuttering ?

I appreciate the suggestion, but based on the nvidia overlay running, the temps are ideal and there's no dust, I upgraded my GPU just a little over a month ago with a new, out-of-the-box purchase.

Just to provide some additional (albeit minor) info, I played heavily over the weekend, clocking in a 12 hour session on Saturday and a 11 hour session on Sunday, didn't hit that stutter at all. Today, after 2 hours of play, it returned not just once, but twice. The 2nd event happened not quite 40 minutes into play after the first. Again I had to completely reboot the machine to get it to clear, the cause continues to elude me.

Are you running locally on your own PC or are you joining a server to play ?
Solo/friends game options where you run the game yourself do not suffer the issues but it seems quite common that players using official servers are having issues at times.
I run solo and have a constant 120 FPS not lag or stuttering.
My fps tends to fluctuate between 115 and 120 pretty much consistently but does not effect the visuals.
Outside of this the only suggestion I can make is to uplug your router for 2 minutes before starting a game session and see if clearing the cache helps at all.
No matter how high tech routers get they always suffer from cache issues eventually just the nature of the internet etc.
i play on official server ping is good around 50 to max 75... first time i played this game i had less lags and stutter so i guess something is not same...

Thank you for your input Johnno, but I'm playing the game solo on my own pc. i can rule out internet issues, mostly due to an unrelated, but useful incident I had a couple of nights ago when I got to go home early from work. My internet was out, and I couldn't synch to steam's cloud, but I was able to boot up my game and run it without issue. Had no stutters for the nearly 3 hours that I played.

I'm just speculating here, but I think there's something going either with windows or perhaps a memory leak under certain conditions. I know this sort of thing is very difficult to diagnose due to the variation in pc configurations. Heck it could be simple driver issues that randomly get triggered or memory cache, sadly things of this nature are beyond my expertise to figure out making me reliant on those with more skill in figuring it out.

Nvidia released a new driver today that addresses some things with DLSS, its oriented mostly for the 5000 series but its likely to assist my 4080 super in stability if nothing else. I have tried to optimize the game via nvidia's app, but optimized settings are currently unavailable for Soulmask. Which is a shame, as every game that I have used the app's optimizing for saw anywhere from a 8-25% improvement.

For now, though its kind of annoying, if a simple restart clears the issue I'll just accept it and move on. But if there is something the Devs could do, hopefully these exchanges will land on their radar as something to look at as it evolves out of early access.

What you can try is the following

In the Command Prompt window, type the following command, and press ENTER:

sfc /scannow

to get there simply use the windows search and type cmd then open as admin
the sfc /scannow you can quite safely copy paste into the command window and hit enter.
all this does is check your windows system for missing or corrupt files. If any are found they are simply repaired or replaced.
You could open event viewer to look for errors but that gets complicated real fast if you don't know what you need to look for etc but the simple SFC command is not a magic wand as such but it does repair a and fix a lot of minor Windows oddities and helps resolve several issues.

Rubberbanding are since the Game exist...
