Yeah but if I do that they will continue as unlimited and eventually get "heavy" or fill up everything. Figured there was a way just to restart the order.
for example I have the stove and set 60 cooked fish 60 cooked meat etc and the same for the crafting bench for handles carpenter for planks etc and the press for oil. All the workers do their work task and if the quantity drops as items are being used they return to work.
The only area of issue is the wild harvest as others have issues with them never stopping with logging mining etc even if all storage chests are full.
Myself I simply cancel the work order on my 3 harvesting npc's as once they have decent tools they can fill a chest real fast much faster than the camp requires. I simply marked them as logger miner and weed control under their names so if I need logs or minerals etc I can find them back with ease and tell them to go work again.
Alternative solution if you run solo on your own PC just use Lucifers mod for Stacks in the workshop. Let chests and backpacks carry stacks of 10,000 no weight added. Did this in a couple of my game worlds and it is a QoL mod that solves so much trouble with micromanagement.
Personally my solution had just been absurd amounts of storage (stack em to the sky Tribesman can reach them from the ground) and unlimited quantity jobs, I make sure to go through and use up whatever I can. Example: tell a tribesman to make 10,000 stone bricks when stone gets full, etc....
