The Discord server for this game lists private (Community) server advertisements. I've played on the AWL Gaming one, but not recently. A few were playing it 6 months ago. No idea how many now.
You can set the difficulty easily. Also you can customize a ton of settings. Some you don't want to mess with until you know how they can effect game play. You can change weapons, tools, armor, and your base to not take damage and decay if you like. That removes some of the grind in the game if you are into less grind.
Keep in mind, you need to recruit tribe members and set them to automate stuff for you. If you miss that aspect of the game and try and craft everything yourself, the game is a super big grind.
I like to play the game solo. I'm currently playing a game with my wife. You can use the steam "Join Game" function to play in a friends game. Keep in mind that if you do that, you can only play that game while the host is playing. If your friend hosts, then only when they are playing. The game of course has dedicated servers too, and that is what the AWL Gaming one that I mention uses. Of course official servers, but I never play those in any game. Mostly I would say they are trash, as you might come across a hacker or griefer.
Sure up to you. The people on the AWL Gaming discord are nice. You could ask if anyone is playing. Like a lot of games, a lot fewer playing now than 6 months ago. Not sure why, but seems like it is more popular in China than many other areas. One guy has written a lot of mods, mostly only in Chinese, but a few with an English version.
So fun game. A lot like ARK, but you recruit tribe members instead of tame dinosaurs. The game is not too grindy, once you get the hang of it, but I never play on the hardest setting, always easy or casual setting.

I guess people have moved on to other games. I hope they will come back. Be fun to play with a group again.
Ya, trying to figure out why that is the case. Like I said, it looks like quite a few playing in other countries, just not the US. I've only played to mid game where I got Iron (maybe a bit before mid game). Seems to work well up to that point.
Game is on sale right now. Got the copy for my wife on sale. She is really liking the game. She likes games where you kill stuff, so it is right up her alley.
I like the settings on the AWL Gaming server, fairly easy how I like them. Still, I like playing local, then I can tune everything that I want.
It takes a while to get used to the mechanics, and I have had to look up, quite a bit online and YouTube, to figure things out.
I'm playing it Solo. I personally think it's well worth the money !!!! And hopefully it will, only get better with future updates. It puts a lot of AAA games to shame.
Yes, this game came out in Early Access with a lot of features. They have added more since then. Worked well too. It is I think UE5, so takes a newer gaming PC to play it, so that might hinder its popularity a bit.
I play it with my wife on a dedicated own server. And it is, played on "normal", really hard to play. So alone, your maybe have to regulate it down to your needs.
lots of content and i only play solo. You can customize the difficulty very well and change it on the fly without restarting a new fresh character. I think it's the best survival on the market at the moment...
I've almost completed the entire game. Solo. The final boss remains. There is no difficulty in playing alone.
The only nuance is that I had to raise the rates (loot and production) for a more comfortable game.
I still play online too but it is stressful and unpleasantly tuned, even though I do the content carefully without death with strong red masters, it is unpleasant and stressful to participate, not relaxing and fun.
With friends it would be way less stressful. But the low pop PVE server I'm on, no one says a word in chat hardly ever, and when they do you can easily miss it because the chat interface design is so bad and can easily miss out on stuff.
When ever I play Soulmask I wish I was playing Conan Exiles instead, I find Conan Exiles a way more interesting, compelling, compatible experience.
Maybe many of us will probably just go hang out In Dune Awakening soon and not ever come here or there again...
