Similar in that they both are open world and you can control npc'c etc.
The automation of npc's and how they will do tasks as crafting looking after the base feeding and harvesting is also cool.
An npc can be given multiple tasks for example Worklist if you like. So early game one npc can go logging for wood vines tree bark etc but as a second task can also be rquired to keep the bonfire burning. If you have some chest built for storage the automatically store the items in the correct chests so the same npcs can have a third task where they then go mining. Management is simple as you have the ability to stipulated how much stock is required of each item.
For me no game has ever given me such control over npc's and this makes ones base or bases seem alive and can be self sufficient.
you do not need to really craft anything yourself after the first few hours as the tribesmne you have captured will do all your crafting for you.
The different biomes are also well thougfht out and the weather is dfefinately impacted upon where you build etc. Lower marsh land lots of rain and thunder storms mountain areas especially close to the colder areas have much more fog and mist whilst the highlands close to the desrt conan style landscapes are more temperate with abundant sunshine less storms and good weather for growing most crops.
Your npcs can also take care of breeding animals and harvesting them for resources and another npc can do the same for your farm plots. they will plant the seeds grow the crops and harvest them when ready.
Also the npc's come with a diversity of talents both positive and negative so tweaking ones tribe is another aspect where the control of npc's is second to none.
Give it a try as Steam lets you play 120 minutes and after 90 minutes you are hooked or you simply do not like the game.
