How to transfer a world from a server to a PC?
This is something I've researched and none of the sources give the procedure for this type of transfer.

My small clan have been playing together for some time but the frequency is not enough to justify paying for a dedicated server anymore. I wish to transfer the world (with settings) from the server to my own PC and run the world on a Solo/Friends basis. I've already dropped the backup file from the server into the relevant save folder, but each time I start a game it puts me straight into character creation.

What's the correct process?

Thanks for the link, but this is the source I was working from. It covers PC->Server and Server->Server, but not Server->PC. I'm trying to extrapolate the procedure from those as it is.

I hoped there was a simple guide to follow. When transferring the two named files from the server backup into the folder with the current invitation code on my PC (and the game generates a new one every time I open up Solo/Friends), it's not recognised. Each of the Invitation Code folders has two additional files present; game.json and GameXishu_0.json and those are not present on the server backup files.

EDIT: I think I've found the solution: Enter the game via 'Continue' rather than Solo/Friends and select the saved game file from there.

I haven't tried this myself, but here's a discussion on the sub that may help you. There's a comment if you scroll down from a user that says he got it working by renaming the files with the suffix "_2". https://www.reddit.com/r/PlaySoulMask/comments/1d65tzq/how_to_transfer_soulmask_world_and_player_save/

EDIT: Nvm, glad to see you got it working. Can you kindly detail the steps you did in case I need to do this for our server save please? Would really appreciate it

just download the two files from the server,
Open Soulmask start a Single Player Game and close ist.
Switch to %LOCALAPPDATA%\WS\ (AutoGamesFolder) Change the Foldername inside to the invitation Code from the Server, overwrite the Wolrd.db, and rename the Server GameXishu to GameXishu_2 overwrite, start Soulmask solo done i try it with my Server no Problems.

My pleasure.

My host was GTX Gaming. The server automatically backs up the game files in date/time order which can be downloaded via an FTP client. After downloading them I took the following actions:

1. Select the Save file from the download and transfer it into the C:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Local\WS directory.
2. Start a new game using 'Solo/Friends' to generate a game with an invitation code. Progress through the Story/Character Creation sequence until your new character is in the world. This creates a new folder under the 'Invitation Code' name under 'C:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Local\WS\<Your Steam ID>\2646460\AutoGames'.
3. Copy the 'world.db' file from 'C:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Local\WS\Saved\Worlds\Dedicated\Level01_Main' into the folder with the correct 'Invitation Code' name that you just created by generating a new game.
4. Copy the 'GameXishu.json' file from the 'C:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Local\WS\Saved\GameplaySettings' folder into the same directory as the 'world.db' file.
5. Start the game and select 'Continue'. This will present you with a list of saved games in the bottom left of the screen.
6. Select the file with the Invitation Code where you transferred the files to and load.
7. Result!

I know it's a bit long winded and there may be a quicker way to do it, but I had to work it out by trial and error.

I hope this helps.
