Where's the ore?

A mine named Phosphorus ore gives flint and stone, a dungeon with iron ore gives flint and stone, what's the catch, where did all the ore go?

If you only get stone and flint when you mine ore nodes, it means your pickaxe is lower tier, you need at least bronze pickaxe to get iron.

Don't even doubt it - everything will work out.
Copper/tin is at least bone.
Iron is at least bronze.
And so on.

I just found a mine and got a lot of Phosphate.
The only problem is, I don't know what it is for. :P
What is Phosphate used for in the game?
