half of the fields with corn/potatoes (but corn is more useful for making animal feed), half with pumpkins. Turn the corn into roasted corn, and the pumpkins into roasted pumpkin....now you have 2 food types (staple/fruits&veg). If you want to really keep them at peak happiness, get a piranha pool. Set the piranha pool to only be fed with fish. Now you have self-replicating, endless fish. Cook roasted fish on top of the other two to cover 3 food types.
As for jaguars, I'd heard there are some prepared foods they can eat. I'd suggest looking at the hunting log and seeing what baits you can use. A prepared food will give them 20-40 or so, maybe more, depending on the food, instead of the 2 that they get from raw regular meat.
I also adjusted some of the server settings, so their food consumption isn't the vanilla rating. It's slower.
I have 5 farm fields with just a single tribesman working them. I have more food then I know what to do with. 3 of the fields are now set to non-food items (cotton, plants for meds, etc). The automation system for the NPC's is amazing.
