But indeed, you can feedback fine tuning food consumption. For example, stranded alien dawn game has such a mechanic, where you can check various food for each member. You won't want an alcoholic to drink tequila or he's develop cirrhosis and eventually die...
I set my boxes to:
- raw materials: accessible to everyone for all purposes
- basic cooked (rotted meat, bowls, cups, and all prepared items except top tier foods): accessible to everyone for all purposes. As long as they can grab roasted corn or whatever from here, they don't bother eating the raw stuff. this chest accepts all the dishes since they usually end up here anyways from rotting/use.
- advanced cooked: only store, no taking. These are the top tier recipes requiring 8 cooking oil and 5 refined salt and multiple ingredients and taking over a minute each to craft. I use them for exploration and adventuring, on me and my companions, and i'll pull out what I need, when I need. no access for tribesmen so they don't get gobbled up in a flash.
I'll usually manually move around stuff...I just move it around in such big quantities that it doesn't become a constant chore. Dining table getting low? add another 2000 roasted corn and 2000 roasted pumpkin. Problem solved for the next IRL week+
Then make a chest that only accepts food you want them to eat and leave it so they can withdraw from that chest
Then make sure no where else in the base accepts these foods
Liek there's torilla that is a requirement for fried taco
sure, but tortillas are insanely cheap and easy to make....they're literally just corn and water. if you don't have enough corn, you're either not farming or not keeping ANY eye on your farms. if you can't bother turning it into cornmeal, you're just being lazy.
Tortillas are a second tier food that are as easy to make as a first tier food....they're arguably the second EASIEST second tier food in the game to make (behind potatos).
