Do Purple Crystals Even Exist?

So, I've watched the few videos and posts that talk about where to find them and farm them...I have NEVER seen one. I've been the extinction event for mammoths; I've earned my Plunderer Slayer Boy Scout badge; I've more wolf pelts than an Alaska frontiersman. Crystal Caves, Meteor Pits, Ancient Ruins...Hours and hours into this game and I have never seen a single purple crystal. Almost convinced the devs made this as a joke.

I have just pulled 4 from the "Underground Ruins" in the Ice biome, however as they are 'rare' drops YMMV on the number you get, if I do not get a purple crystal it is replaced by chalcedony. Playing on a private server, normal rates.

I just got a lot of 12 purple crystals...in a pit dungeon (ancient underground ruins). There does not seem to be a way out, but you can climb the walls back to the top.

Ancient Tablet down there too; mostly north of the pyramid...slightly east. If you went north of the Elite Mammoth meteor crater, then you went to far north...it is just slightly south of it (again...north/north-east of the pyramid...just using the mammoth point as a distance indicator)

Funny thing is...I don't know what the purple crystals are even for :)

The purple crystals are required for you to access a dungeon late-game. I'll re-check the underground pit dungeon. I know the one you are talking about. I have done these areas I have no idea how many times, and I just can't seem to find a single crystal.

So, those Underground Ruins did finally provide the Purple Crystals I was looking for. Thanks guys for helping out. I was about to take a long break from the game. They are in one chest at the end, after the boss fight in there. I had done it before and likely just missed the crystals when I went through it.

I don't think they are guaranteed to drop, I've noticed a lot of endgame resources so far have been <Variable> in their amounts and drops. So you might not have just gotten any, like trying to farm out the snow outfit from one of the tribes, I devoured like 400 crafters before it finally popped.

snowking outside of Big Dungeon boss chest drops them.

I farm those from the chests outside the large dungeon (Swirly icon on map) in the snow region.
