Llama food is for when u have the babies and want them to grow up, aka faster = better food.
bait is more "hands off"....I came back to where my traps were after taming my first Llama and my traps had 2 more babies caught - but the first one I caught by scaring into a trap when it just wouldn't walk in on its own.
As above, do rotate the trap towards the desired catch. As above, I've caught all my herbivores with corn as bait (well, monkeys like fruit but aren't mounts....yet). As above, do get rid of all adults (kill/scare). As above, do circle around to carefully, herd, the target toward a trap. Note, followers set to f4 will kill everything so keep them far away from trapping or gathering eggs. Haven't used Dezxter's arrow method but it should/could work. Note, for the amount of effort it takes to get a mount, use the Q key to see if the trapped critter is worth keeping, red icon is largest; that said I have a low level snow leopard that I'm keeping as mount size doesn't currently matter. Note, make a couple of saddles so if a saddle wears out and crafting points have been reset no need to spend points on relearning to replace.
1) kill the adults. I know.../cringe, but it makes for less competition of the food.
2) place the trap, stock it with either corn or corn flour. I've personally not noticed a discernible difference between the two, but I favor corn flour since its a "higher tier good" and i (perhaps mistakenly) assume it has more "value" to the little guys.
3) Waiting/watching is usually around the 2-3 minute mark. Unlike the Jags, you only need one trap as the Alpaca wander around less.
4) Alpaca, Llama, Boar, Turkey, and Capybera all follow the same rule, though are more feed specific. The only one I've had to lay multiple traps for are the Jags.
5) Note about anything that has an egg. I haven't been able to put the eggs in the Llama pet baskets, I had to carry them "by hand" to my base to hatch near the bonfire/campfires. Annoying AF, but it is what it is.
Disclaimer: As of yet, haven't tried Moose or Armadillo yet.
