effective way of getting iron?
It seems that every place that has iron ore nodes in it are giant death traps that are going to garuntee that my tribesmen will most likely get slaughtered if i attempted to enter. How did you guys go about getting your first bits of iron ingots?

The dungeons with the robots... that was the first bit. Got enough there to get some basic Iron Gear. Specifically the holy ruins of the river valley. Seems to be one of the easiest to start with. After that there is a mine in the western desert, Mine 4 on the interactive map. It has a total of like 7-10 Flint tribe guys. You can pull most of them individually with a bow. After killing them all there will be a bunch of iron nodes for collecting. Just be warned, while theres no animals in the area by default that I remember the iron nodes when mined out can spawn a spider or a centipede.

First iron? From the metal parts that dropped from killing the robots in holy/ancient ruins.

There are some iron ores that are outside of some of the mines. So.. don't enter the mines and skim the outside if you are too weak. Even the open field to the north of the river valley above the dark brown plateau and in desert border area have some nodes lying around,

As above, first iron is from the river valley ruins. melting down the metal from the robots.

However, If you travel north from the hill portal, you'll reach some mountains that curve northward as you follow them west. Follow those mountains and you'll come to a cave which is the entrance to the Wetlands ruins, which is a long cave that leads to another robot temple. In that cave is a constant poison cloud and poisonous centipedes and poison arrow frogs, but loads of iron ore nodes. The poison cloud can be easily outhealed with bandages (bring plenty though), and the centipedes can be killed without getting hit by spear stabbing while backing up, and the poison arrow frogs are killed without getting hit by circling around to never be in front of them while poking with a spear.

Running the whole cave will net you 250-350ish iron ore, depending on luck and mining perks.

It can be a rough area, and "deathtrap" might actually be quite fitting, but if you're careful to fight defensively (don't stand and heavy attack, you'll get wrecked by poisonous attacks) and keep your health topped up with bandages/meat/poison-mitigating food, you can get plenty of iron even if you don't go far into the cave. One room in and you'll have roughly the same amount of iron as you'd get in a ruins clear from robots.

I just travelled to the Plateau land and mined where the tribe was, I managed to get pretty much a full stack and was able to kill the 5-6 tribesman guarding that area. My biggest issue at the time was I forgot to sleep and my character was really tired and only had half max load. I managed to get back to the wetlands portal though and had enough iron to craft all my iron set with plenty left over.

My tribesman was max level though (50)

Make some cooked potato, gives you a nice load boost while up there :)

I did the same, but was level 30, they are easy when you pick them off one by one, I just placed a bonfire on the cliff edge below the barracks and made a big base, enemies cannot get to me, while i can easily run back and forth for iron. Only problem is how it became my main base xD
