Combat
I had my eye on the game, interesting premise and I love survival sandboxes. Was made aware of the demo yesterday so downloaded and gave it a go. Was enjoying myself immensely and then I had combat..

I mean I get a lot of people love this current trend of dark souls'esque action combat, but I am not one of them. Even on easy two hits and dead? blocks were super slow and unresponsive whereas dodges were super responsive. Then we have the issue of the fact that enemies can literally stun lock you, knock you down and prevent you getting up or dodging and just spam hits on you until death. Not great.

Off the wishlist for now, but will keep a discreet eye on it in-case things change/improve during the EA period.

Yes, i also started getting negative vibes with the combat.
I play solo, so i play on easy difficultie.

I have put all my points into HitPoints.
Im all geared for "kill tribe leader" mission.
And damn, it is still big task to do.
I just barely made out of there alive.
I can imagine players on normal difficultie hitting brickwall in some combat events.

Im rlly not fan of harder combat.
It was promising game until combat breaks the illusion.

The game is actually way harder later for mid and end game and it's extremely difficult to solo as you get 1 to 2 shot even on "easy" difficulty. You need at least 2 other players as revivers.

In the demo, most of you won't even has a taste of the later game in areas like the desert...

Were you wearing any armour? Did you eat food to buff your health? Manage your stamina properly? Did you venture too far without properly preparing? There are places noobs should not go. Did you experiment with different weapons? Use your weapon special attacks? The regular sword has a swipe then a swing and jump back if you tap the special attack key twice, really easy to dodge NPCs using that and the attacks are fast. Did you bring a friendly NPC with you or are you at that point yet?

Yes, this is excatly my concern.
If "kill tribe leader" alrdy felt hard (on easy) then what the hell bosses and late game will be for solo players.
Alrdy uninstalled game.
Everything else seemed very good, just combat for solo players is deal breaker.

this. pretty sure you were unprepared or didnt understand the system yet or went were you shouldnt have gone yet, so i would recommend to just put some more time into it to form a proper opinion, dont give up so fast. i completed the demo with a friend and played solo too (during steam next fest, didnt seem to change much in difficulty as far as ive seen now) and its not supposed to be that easy or run into groups of geared enemies and elites and just spam left mouse to kill everything, youre supposed to be prepared and buffed and geared have the right weapons for the right enemy and play tactical and pull single enemies out and properly dodge and parry and so on, also the difficulty on that map rises from south-east to north-west so hang out where you belong till you got what you need to advance. and yes you WILL die some times but you can just put a respawn fire or camp close by and do corpse runs without losing much. and yes i dont think this game is made to play solo but since you can bring tribe members to fight by your side (which could use some more work) you can beat it solo too even tho its more fun with at least one friend. imo the difficulty is ok like it is but cant really tell for sure till i see more of the later game

When you cross that difficulty line a bit too soon the game doesn't pull any punches, it smashes you straight in the nose and makes your eyes water then pushes you over and kicks you while you're down. The jaguars were my punch in the nose... lol.

Jaguars were easy for me coming from Conan Exiles. Jab, move to the side, jab, move to the side.
Those little dogs OMG.
I'm gearing up for what I can. (I'm on easy and it's not ;_; )

Gotta say I'm kind of impressed that the NPCs can dodge roll arrows. Nice touch.

I am not playing on easy. Maybe on easy the jaguars wouldn't decimate me so fast. I do think the jaguars feel a bit like fighting the cats from Conan Exiles but I haven't quite got the pattern down yet. A few more deaths and maybe I'll get there, they just hit so darn hard that if I mess up once and they land a hit sometimes that is all it takes to ends the fight.

Sometimes those little dogs get in a bite or two because they're sneaky little gits but generally I find them very easy to fight. I block their attack then I power attack (hold LMB) with the spear which does a bunch of quick thrusts. Usually they die pretty quick, a single flurry and they're done. With lower tier weapons and lower stats it took a couple attacks.

Yeah, the NPCs dodge my spear throws, too. I like that they don't just stand still or run straight at me all the time. I fought one enemy that was dodging and running around like crazy, took a while to sort them out.

I think this game is going to be pretty solid once it's done. Feels a lot like old school Conan Exiles crossed with a pinch of Valheim.

Heh, as I said, all of you did not cross the rubicon yet. Still in the baby mode areas.

Jaguar and such is nothing compared to mid and late game stuff... I'm so familiar with arpg and surivival game that the early game is easy peasy like the sabretooth tiger boss and barracks clearing.... then I reach the mid game and my face ran straight into a brick wall. It turned into a slog without other players to revive you.

I don't usually respond to these type of posts. But I think the main point is that they had the game on easy difficulty. EASY. Easy is supposed to be for us casuals who don't want to invest hundreds of hours into a game, to learn every little thing about it, just to experience the content. I am familiar with survival games and enjoy them, but I didn't expect this game to be a souls like RPG where one wrong move meant certain death.

I enjoy almost everything about this game except getting stunned, knocked out and killed all because I missed a dodge or block from an elite enemy. And yes, I am making good armor, eating good foods, and getting good tribesmen. I may be joining the OP in this one in uninstalling and waiting a year or two to see what the final product looks like.

Edit: Sorry for digging this post out from the dead. It's what came up when I googled something I had questions on about this game.
