But also a PSA.. you're going to need clay to progress somewhat early on, and near as I can tell, that's only found around the fresh water (lakes/rivers), so keep that in mind when trying to find a place to call home.
IMO devs should add clay along the ocean shorelines (or some equivalent). I mean.. clay can form from silt, which is created when sand or larger rocks are weathered. So it's realistic to be able to farm clay from ocean shorelines.
You still need dozens of water skins to keep up with food production.
Clay's a non-issue, you can gather multiple stacks of it in 1 trip and really don't need a lot in the start, there's a handful of items that require clay, never had an issue with it.
