In SP you can cheese it, by going to main screen and back if you get hit.
Wearing Tribe Winter Knit wear (Legendary, from tribe bosses)
Having Hot coco buff and other 'hot' foods
Holding a torch
NEVER be in front of the Mammoth or your dead
I have just tried this with a regular tribesman, coco, exciteant, chillis, and frost 2 mods on a full steel set, I can absolutely demolish him in the first phase with dual blades + legendary skill with bleeds but as soon as that second phase storm hits I start taking around 50+ damage per tick even if I switch to spear with a torch out.
This is such a huge change to all the other bosses that were really easy to gear for the mechanics.
"Explorer" mask in Mimicry mode (chill resist +120)
Chill mod 3 times 4x (chill resist +48)
Chill adaptation crystal in your mask (chill resist +~7)
Get a tribesman from the winter biome, they have passive chill resist bonus (Tier III - cold resist +15)
if its not enough, go for full winter armor set, u can craft/mod it on your steel set (4x10=40 resist)
Yup I had most of the buffs available, I just never went and got a winter tribesman or armor set.
What I am trying to dissect is what the actual minimum requirement is to take low damage from snow storm. Most of the previous bosses were easy enough to do, pretty much as soon as you can survive in their zones you are also able to survive the boss arena, you never had to touch V3 Mods or get a specific tribesman to do it.
Mammoth I can be "Snow Ready" but you are not "Mammoth Ready" the difference between resistance requirements to explore the snow vs the requirement survive the Phase 2 storms is quite significant.
Nothing has required you needing to get a specific type of tribesman or wearing their particular gear set at any point during the entire game until this point. Every single Biome I have been able to handle with L2 Mods and food buffs/potions. This is such a massive jump in requirement and is probably why so many people get stumped on this boss.
