Vajra is outrageous - DEVS this need some balancing
Solo player at lowest difficulty possible and I can't take more than 50% of his health. I'm way above the recommended level and using iron gear. And before people like the Discord dwellers come with the gitgud mantra, you don't like it, don't bother answering.

I finished the ape first time and try without a ranged merc and just used the spears throw to poke him off the tree or at least slow his healing down. Dealing enough dmg to him while he's not thinking about healing worked fine. I could play him very aggressively as all his attacks are easy to dodge und you can almost dodge-cancel all your attacks. During his tree-slap phase you can parry his tree-strikes (the swings, not the overheads) to get more openings.
For the next kills, I guess I'll bring some throwables and maybe slime nades to see if he can hold onto that tree when slimey ;)

I thought Vajra ape was the most fun one. Tough but doable. His mechanics are pretty easy to dodge.
It took me two hours to understand the mechanics and defeat it, but it was the most enjoyable gaming experience I've ever had.
His attacks have big windups and tells. Learn them. If you can't then eat the damage with either a hammer or shield. Its a very enjoyable fight.
Tossing my agreement into this topic.

I'm in a private server with default difficulty (a few changes like death bag, durability improvements, but incoming and outgoing damage are default) with 3 friends. I'm the furthest advanced so I do a lot of the progression solo and then come back and help my friends, and was looking to set up bases near the further along world portals. Wanted to take down Vajra Ape to get access to personal portals to make it all easier.

Sabertooth wasn't too bad, Fogfrog was cake, but I got to Vajra (awareness 41, full iron gear, every piece is blue or better at least, stam regen pumpkins, rare meat hp, and taco defense boost) and with my HP focused tribesman, I can't get him even below 90% on default settings before he catches me with the multi-slam unblockable (which looks like a normal attack at first, but is delayed long enough so that if you do dodge roll, you come out of the roll right into getting grabbed).

that slam takes me from my max health of 2900 to 0 EVERY time. doesn't matter if I didn't get hit a single time before that, one slip up and the fight is over. I have torch of eternity, so I can get back up from near death, but it doesn't matter, he already reset. Once more, This is 2900 health on a lvl 50 master guard tribesman with over 50 fortitude (whatever one the health increasing stat is), full iron of blues, purples, and golds, and defense boosting food, and at full HP, it drops me to dying if I get caught, without fail.

Oh, and my special tribesman "G" ability to "end an effect that causes loss of control" does nothing, which sucks even more, because I checked, and I'm pretty sure that being flung around like a doll pretty clearly falls under "loss of control".

It very much is a 1-hit kill, and with the confusing tell looking like his other lunge-attacks, staying perfect for a LONG fight (because of course he's resistant to piercing...) is just beyond me...and up to now I haven't had any issues with any bosses, elites, tribesmen, chiefs, animals, nothing....they might kill me once or twice, or get a lucky kill on me if I screw around or mess up, but they feel so much more manageable.

Vajra might feel manageable (again, default settings) IF that attack didn't kill you outright. If it dealt maybe 1.7-2k damage, it would be recoverable.... hard, yes, but I could scramble away, bandage up, and get back in the fight without the boss resetting.

1-Shot attacks always suck balls unless easily avoidable. With soulmask's netcode tho, oneshots shouldn't exist (unless undergeared etc) if the devs mean multiplayer seriously ;D

I guess your post is more about the problem per se and not about not being able to kill him. But otherwise: Grab a tribesman companion with vertical shield wall skill, set his battlestyle to defensive and you can recover more easily when being downed. The boss also wont reset that way.

I play on official and didn't have much problems with him. You said you were A-STR 30 so you weren't in full iron as iron weapons is 35...So maybe finish leveling :P welcome to RPGs. I mean the modern population doesn't remember the days of Everquest when you would die/delevel and not be able to use all those new skills you equipped....What? Equip skills? Stop being such an Erudite.

King Kong is what? Level 30 awareness, I think you're not supposed to have a companion with 120 weapon proficiency to kill it. Not at the first difficulty and not playing solo on casual.

On a sidenote, I was able to kill it using the tree he climbs as protection. The whole fight was circling around it. It took many tries and it was zero fun.

As much as I think it should be difficult, I don't agree it should be this hard on casual.
I went to get magnets now in my new griffin suit, before I was completely done my companion and I where both exhausted and had to turn around. +50% Rad resist on easy mode, was still too much. It is rough.

You had radiation lowering food up all time? Halfing the rad input with resist is just one half to fight it.

Where do you get magnets tho? My guess regarding map design would be some holy ruins in the snow area, but with radiation mentioned i guess it's the NW holy ruins in the wasteland?
Nonethless, I feel like i would have completed the game and all doom bosses before hitting steel and above if there were no awareness-requirements to summon them.

I havent been where radiation was a problem my food couldnt handle yet, but if magnet's area is too radiating, you could use (ironically) some magnets to craft anti-radiation essence to half your radiation when it gets into dangerous levels. Maybe you can find some few magnets in chests or from tribeleaders to craft it and open up the way to get more magnets more easily.
Edit: oh i just read your text again and saw you at least did a portion of that area so i assume you got some magnets? Problem solved then. Anti radiation essence is probably ingame and same tier for exact that reason/location.
Edit2: you can also eat honey to get rid of radiation.

I'm an old man (like, retired old). To boot, a crappy gamer.

I put the game on lowest difficulty combat, wearing iron gear, and beat the ape boss first try.
Yes, he's tough... BUT... I practiced and used dodge.
You CANNOT beat the ape without dodging.

If you're not using dodge on anything harder than a skinny barbarian... you're NOT going to do well at all in this game. The game REQUIRES you to dodge attacks. A LOT.

I suck at dodging, but I work at it. If you don't work at dodging, than just stop playing this game, because you're never going to have any success.
easiest difficulty possible? I solod him on berserker on official PVP servers with less gear... sounds like a skill issue....

before the griffin armor you would have needed to not only consume jam but also consume wine as it stops morale reduction.

you have to manually force your companion to eat and drink too. this is a point they could improve.

They do eat/drink by themselves. Its just they do not do it for buffs. If they did food would probably run out really fast in a base with 18 tribesmen going through all your food and drink trying to keep all the buffs up. Its not that tedious buffing up a companion, it only takes a few seconds.
