I found the elephants to be fairly easy in bronze, although they are quite tanky. They are strong against piercing attacks though, so I would recommend using dual blades and jumping attacks on their hind legs followed by dodging away. They turn very slowly so as long as you don't give them too much space you can control the fight.

When I was first getting materials to move to iron I followed a route through elephant territory to the barracks north of there to pick up hide and iron in the same trip.

Alligators are, of course, easier though.

elephant is probably the easiest enemy to fight in the game, bring a hammer and hit its back, roll back, one hit on back, move with it so you keep towards its back, hit again and repeat, if it uses the same skill it uses at the start, roll away again. Never stay in front, never give distance. Easiest enemy by far!

Easiest? lol

(I was beating the with beat bone gear)

Perhaps, however the area is a 30+ area. Why risk running into difficult enemies on the way there when you can deal with Lvl 25 Elite gators with ease and no risk from the environment.

It is close to easily accessible iron.

yeah not many elite crock around, and I have to travel a bit to get them in each elite locations, so maybe elephants are a better choice. I ll try that Gnolimar thanks

4 easy elite crocs right around the mangrove area, and each one drops several carcasses....killed 2 elite gators, got 7 carcass chunks, which is 42 thick hide which is 42 premium thick leather....with 120 leatherworking and full +output proficiency perks, that's an average of 94.5 premium thick leather from 7 carcasses (42+50% when making hide is 63 hide, and 63+50% when making the hide into leather jumps to 94.5). Even with only 90 LW, you're still getting over 60 premium thick leather, from the 7 carcass chunks you can get from 2 gators only.

I got tons from the elephants and I went with double swords and it was super easy to kill them and they dropped a lot.

1. Get dual blades of highest possible quality
2. Set F attack to "Lightning speed" (several extra-fast thrusts)
3. Go to Giant Wood Forest (little to the north-north-east from the center of the map), find the water bodies all around the area.
4. Find elephant which you can run around (no extra-thick trees or hillside.
5. Stand next to his hind leg (at the back)
6. Keep hitting him with F into hind leg, making him bleed
7. Evade his stomp attacks (just roll away); don't hit when he's glowing.
8. Keep staying behind him (he's rotating very slowly).
9. He's dead; loot it; find next one; repeat.

With iron duals 0 lvl I kill elephant in 30-40 seconds. In 30 minutes I killed like 15-20 elephants and got ~100 carcasses. And with some experience you avoid taking damage completely. I've killed both elites as well, they are tougher but strategy is completely the same.
Even with bone duals it would be still faster and more efficient than running whole river delta for 4-5 alligators with 15-20 carcasses.

p.s. I also recommend using default character or Torch of Eternity mask (with Life Halt) until you understand how to kill elephants - to avoid losing valuable tribesmen.
