It also apparently doesn't require caretaker or any manual action.

Personally I think this is redundant and mildly tedious, without adding any gameplay value whatsoever. It should be possible to disassemble all unwanted gear straight from inventory. The technology upgrades for improving uncrafting should be on the mask upgrades instead.

at least for the repair station, a caretaker makes sense, because he puts the required mats in and the repaired items out.

For the uncrafting table, for me it's useful since I can simply dump everything into it after comming back into my base, in stead of waiting for all the items to be dismantled in my inventory before I can get rid of all the mats.
