You need to control another tribesman and use them. It's not a great system.

I think that is stupid govern the fact the locked out skills being shown to us is more of a slap to the face . I am going to assume this is not the case due to early access . If this becomes a permanent Then they need to make the followers stronger . For I took a level 50 maxed out master warrior out as my body guard that had way WAY better skills than me plus had no disadvantages was near perfect and yet he died so fast by a bear like 13 levels lower than him and he was Well geared ! That is pathetic and them skills would have been better on my main . Maybe should have played him over the main that i had full character creation over that i built how i wanted her . Shame we cannot change the tribesman to look how we want . That would stop me from complaining . Not a fan of getting good stat npcs that have a jumbo head and skin and bones that looks ugly as hell having better stats than my goddess of a chief .:steamfacepalm:

You can raise the cap by a total of 20 for your initial character. The mask node is after you defeat the third boss.

They literally say in the marketing for it get stronger by swapping to NPCs you tame, also swap at will to do multiple things. Like I got a bad ass hunter amazing archer I normally play, also got a great sword user for when I wnat to smash hell out of crap. A dual blade user etc etc. Its how its intended to play its more slap in face they spent how much on marketing showin you swap you mask to get better, and do other things and you were like "boring, oh oh more shiny!" While you watched the trailer lol

2 very frustrating points about this.

1* my character becomes useless and disposable.
2* but I'm still stuck with the starting character.

If my character is disposable (pregression is blocked and I am forced to play with other characters), then allow me to kill him immediately, and as soon as I find a character stronger than the initial one, mark him as main, and so on every time it is necessary , it doesn't make sense in the "end game" for me to be carrying the weakest character in the game.

You are not "the weakest character in the game" your main character is perfectly capable of doing all the content in the game. If you want to specialize, you find someone with the skill you want and raise them to do that. Your main character is still the best for exploration. Also there are 3 settings in the growth tab of advanced settings that let you make your character stronger. You can increase the amount of attribute points your character gets per level. As well as the amount of growth they get per level. This brings their damage up a lot. As well as increasing their utility advantage even further, because they will have more health/stamina/equip load.

I understand your argument and I agree that it is possible to maximize it through attributes, but unfortunately for me, this argument does not nullify and does not justify the "main" character being limited to the first level of skills (locked to level 50, when the limit is 120), without access to "secondary skills".
Unfortunately I cannot understand the reason for this limitation dynamic.

I captured a character that I don’t need with a skill; if I kick him out, he will take three more tribesmen with him. So I decided that I would go bear hunting. Took control over him, took off his clothes and laid out his weapons, found a bear (2 levels higher) and offered honest pvp. I was extremely surprised that I beat him with my fists without taking any damage, just trying to move more, hit only the back paw and watch the stamina. There is no enemy in the game that cannot be defeated without taking damage (excluding bosses). On the other hand, countless times my character was sent to the bonfire because of a jaguar that jumped on the back, an unnoticed anaconda, or a poorly timed knockover from an enemy. And the restrictions imposed on the main character are simply an incentive for progress, exactly the same as a beautiful skin or a new OP character in games of other genres.

I built a podium at my base on which my starting character sits and my tribe dances around him, a completely acceptable use for him while I play with the characters I saved in the mystical table.

Your playing the mask. The character you make in the beginning is just the 'worst' first host to wear it. Understanding this makes it easier for me to grasp why my start character is not 'good'. It also makes the 'gathering' of tribes people that are 'even better' than my current host a mini game.

no Character bonding is the result. implementing this thinking
translates into the world being careless about others
an easy to control citizen.

Actually, you play as the Soul of the first character that was lucky enough to find the first mask. Which is why the first character is only active when they have the mask. Without a Soul, the first tribesman's body is just a husk while the controlled tribesman's Soul is dormant until the first character's Soul leaves the body.

The idea is interesting and all, but if they where going to do the whole swap between characters thing they shouldn't have even bothered having you make and customize a character. I think the main issue people are having is that they spent time making a character just to have the game tell them there character is weaker then the NPCs you get and to play them instead.
What I think the game should do is have your character have stats like the NPCs and have special NPCs that have "Master" stats in specific areas, that way it wouldn't fully get rid of the "its better to swap between characters" feel for doing specific tasks, and your custom character wouldn't feel like there useless past the starting area.
