We are not the mask.
Alot of people are saying we are the mask, truth is we are not. People use that as an excuse for why the main character is so gimped.

The description of the game clearly states we are not the mask:

Escaping a deadly sacrificial ritual, you find an ancient mystical mask on your journey. This mask holds potent knowledge, changing the world you knew. Face the harsh challenges of nature, survive, rally followers, and build your own tribe. Explore and unveil the truths behind the enigmatic mask.

And like I said, the base stats like stamina and carry capacity are determined by the rarity. So the MC gets 100 stamina, an Orange thrall gets 150 stamina, a Red will likely get even more. That is at level 1.

That's also another aspect that could be changed, updating the initial character's potential to max and perhaps letting each sub-node unlocked after a boss increase the caps by 10.

However, it still takes pretty long time (and many materials) to increase proficiencies, and having high cap doesn't make that any faster. Higher caps will only start becoming actually relevant when you begin moving out of the rainforest.
1. You are the character, your character runs away from their captors
2. Your character finds a Mask / Idol
3. The "awareness" of your character transfers to the Mask (that's literally what the Devs and more importantly, the game says)
Your character is dorment when you control other members of your tribe, their awareness / consciousness is no longer present in the body of that character, it is now in the mask.

You are the Mask, because your awareness has transferred to it

4. You find another mask, switch to it -> Your awareness / consciousness transfers from one mask to another.

Guys, it's not that your character is THE mask you chose at the beginning, it is more that your character is a consciousness that is bound to A mask.

This is basic possession type stuff.

About the profecencies. It's somewhat weird they stop at 50 for the original character. They should at least go to 60, to make use of the second perk, or would be randomized based on the initial mask we choose comparable to a medium-skilled tribesmen.
So that the really skilled folk is still something we have to get through tribesmen, but that the character is at least comparable to other outcasts.

On the other hand, as we cannot automate the og character, as they are a lifeless shell without the mask, it doesn't really matter.

Alternatively, as the mask is already some possession magic, why not add a perk for the mask at its max level, that you can force the appearance of your og character onto a new body via some complex and costly ritual.

actually we are. you cannot take control of tribesman without it. all of its bonuses carry over through it to other masks.

in the gameplay trailer. the guy says "NO FIXED PROTAGONIST" or did you some how miss that?

ill leave off with this saying from one of my favorite games "Assuming Direct Control"
no fixed protagonist means we can create our own avatar, not like other games with a fix main guy/gal like cloud/sephiroth.

your argument is weird so does it means all other tribe out there that we face is controlled by a mask-controlled tribe dude? if mask is the main cast then the intro should never be we find the mask, it should be the mask waited for a suitable tribesmen to hold its power. plus if that is the case as you suggest that the mask is the main cast then we should never should have to create our own avatar in the first place. rant on.
1. Change game intro cinematic to have camera at a lower level to emulate mask sitting on a stand or wall or something.

2. Have camera watch the flesh sacks during sacrifice
3. Have camera watch flesh sack get away while being pulled to sacrifice
4. Have camera show flesh sack running toward camera
5. Have camera show flesh sack reaching for camera
6. Switch to Mask customization with out flesh sack visible.

boom.. now its all about the mask.

You can reach 60 on your initial toon once you repair the Body Enhancement 3 node of the mask
What are you thinking about?
It's just a game from the Chinese who are waiting for you to be the masks!
So they can take over the world over us decadent players ;)

No fixed protagonist yet you cannot possess a different tribesman while already possessing one without returning to your original character from creation. This mechanic makes that statement a lie. There is a fixed anchor of a protagonist but you are not locked into a single character.

They still should have given a means to assign your original character a job or given them at least one strength to make them valuable. The fact you cannot dismiss them and replace them with a different tribesman is what makes them the primary protagonist… even if their skills are gimped and you seldom use them, they are the anchor for your tribe and thus the primary protagonist.

Yeah...you are not the mask lol. If this was the case, then what was the point of you even creating a character and stuff? Makes no sense.

Also is stupid how they gimp them, if they want to make your main character who is a anchor for your tribe slower at learning things over time fine, makes sense to start 0 to hero and in the meantime you can possess better tribesmen while your main effectively builds himself up....makes more sense to me to go that route then to gimp them.

That is actually a good idea....as a way to level up your OG character.
Anyway playing this game is anoying with this mechanic. and the worst part is you only find out about it when it is to late for refound
I'm out for now. The game is frustrating wherever it can. There are other games that do it much better. Frustration is not the point of a game. I have to take a Triebesmann with me, but he dies far too often because he's too stupid to dodge, doesn't want to heal himself, or just stands around. And then all the way back to try again? I play on maximum easy 0.2/5 and am one hit? (40, mask fully skilled) There should be options for me with my age-related latency.

Not really but good bye make sure you read the descriptions and watch the trailer in full before you buy them. Because I have yet to see a game where the AI is god tier and will carry you like some you want. And they heal themselves sigh. And if you getting one hit you doing everything wrong I bet you in ♥♥♥♥ gear got no points into hp, and not rocking buff food lol.

Probally that guy who was complaining about doing 35-40 content in level 25 bronze gear and doing badly lol Was all confused why at 40 in 25 gear he was losing to 40 enemies lol

No. It is called 'Soulmask'

You are the mask.
That's simply not true. I do exactly what is instructed. I have some iron equipment and I easily beat the boss (Holy Ruins). But the tribesman fights there for a long time with 5% health. I try to pull the boss away, but he doesn't heal himself, which he always does with other mobs. An AI should be able to do that. I defeated the boss almost on my own, he only hit it occasionally and otherwise positioned himself optimally in the AoE.

I'm just trying to find the leather for the iron armor. I went west, but maybe I'm going in the wrong direction? Where is the way up? I always climbed up and then jumped down. Everything here is just a bit complicated for me.

Edit: Yes I am the mask, but I still don’t like it

following that logic in ARK evolved you are ARK, in Elden Ring you are ring, makes no sense.
