BUG - Failed to open descriptor file ../../../WS/WS.uproject
So I was on the water, died and recovered, then I chose to re-spawn cause my character was stuck in the water, soon as I re-spawned at camp the game locked up and stayed frozen for a bit. then it finally crashed. Now I have this error message when I try to play the game.
I haven't done a verify files and refresh of the game files yet, but wanted to let y'all know this was game breaking.

Games completely broken, Verify of files said 75 files failed, and now there is a Disk Write Error, and it won't update.

It sounds like your hard drive might be failing. Use a SMART tool like CrystalDiskInfo to check your drive's health.

Naw, I'm not sure what happened but soon as I restarted the computer the hold on the drive released.

Drives don't have write errors unless something is seriously wrong. I strongly suggest you check it with a SMART tool. CrystalDiskInfo is free. If the drive isn't failing, and it is on a SATA cable, try replacing that cable.

I appreciate your suggestions. I figured it out. After thoroughly investigating the problem the game crashed due to some sort of programming loop and caused the files in play to become read only. It had something to do with dying in water and recovering in water, the character became stuck and had to force a respawn, respawned character was still stuck and I had to force and kill the game in task manager. When trying to get back in game it wouldn’t let me because the files were locked. After rebooting I was able to verify the files and redownload the messed up files.

This is apparently still an issue as it just happened to me. My situation was different as I was switching between saved games as part of a mod test and I got this error. Thought it was the mod at first but even when I deleted it, same issue. The only thing I did different this time was I did not fully exit the game to switch to the other character just to the main menu.
During verification of the files it reported that 2 files failed to validate and downloaded them. Everything worked again after that.
