Usually even in mmo game, it only shows those in the hub instances you are in and only when you are logged in to facilitate partying up.
I'm talking about in game. There's nothing in game that lets you see who's in the server with you.
That's very bad.
But you don't get a player list, neither before nor after joining the server.
For the issue itself: for pve servers, it's an understandable request. for PVP servers it would most likely be bad, if you can check how many players of each tribe are online.
