Male Turkeys? Do they exist?

I've been trying to catch a male turkey for the turkey breeding pen, but every turkey I've tamed has been female. A youtuber guide I followed said they also only found females.

Is this a bug? Maybe they're just a low % chance? Have you caught a male?

I have seen male turkeys, they tend to be REAL small compared to the females. I can shoot them so they should be able to be caught too.

It's my understanding that you can only catch chicks? I don't think you can capture adults, so it'll still be hard to tell based on size

I captured 3 more and they were all female. Has anyone captured a male? This seems like a bug.

random, I got 1 male and 1 female and manage to breed them way early at the start of the game... But the capybara,,, I have 4 males, tens of hours later, I finally find 1 female.

Don't just throw traps out and hope you get a male. Scan with your mask (youll need the quality details node) until you find a male chick and then put traps near it. They are all spawned in already.

Yes, have caught males - initially caught two females, and then one male, which is all you need - they breed more like rabbits. While you don't need the extra details scan mode, it does cut down on the randomness and frustration.

ty, I hadn't read that far ahead on mask scanning abilities. Currently it doesn't tell me chick gender but I'll revisit taming turkeys once I unlock it

It's probably just RNG then. I struggled to catch my second capybara but it was a male and my first was female. Glad you finally got your breeding pair
