Building in this game needs changes.
Hello there,

So like many of yourself, I enjoy spending time building massive elaborate buildings and had quite high hopes when it came to this game too.

Having spent a few hours in the game and gotten a good feel for the building, I find that building roofs is an absolute pain in the behind.
Did the person who was in charge of the building only know how to build square boxes and castles?. I am currently up to Stone and find that building angular buildings with slanted roofs is just flat out broken once you any higher than 1 wall.

"No supporting buildings nearby" Excuse me? You have the support of a wall, pillar and Floor no more than 1 and half walls below. OK then, let`s move the floor up one, so there`s no more than a half wall to the top. "No supporting buildings nearby".. F%&$
Okey, let`s build it all the way up.. "No supporting buildings nearby"..

Let`s just put a flat roof above the camp fire instead then, remove some roofs to make the build get a bit of shape and voila, it now looks like a modern art piece that could be sold on Etsy for 29.99...

It is driving me insane..

So now I have to rethink my entire base plan, since I hate boring, flat buildings with zero texture to them. This makes me miss the building in Ark & Conan honestly.

I agree that placing structures are really hard.

Valheim's system makes it really, really easy to build stuff, I wish they just copied Valheim.

With the current system, even pressing `F` multiple times to try to make it snap in the correct place facing the correct position is terrible.

Maybe it's a difficulty setting cause I'm having no issues with stability?

So... I extensively used the building systems in Conan Exiles and Fallout 76 and banged my head against every single "WTF" design decision and backwards logic.

As such, this building system feels great and very usable even for elaborate things.

Biased opinion, but there it is.

I know using bad systems as a comparison isn't very useful, but holy crap can it be worse.

I've not had any issues w/ the building system either, they dont like floating things that's for sure (this isn't hogwarts) you might find you need to add the roof from the other side and meet in the middle

Am I doing something wrong?

1. Build 3x3 using thatch foundation
2. Place walls
3. Aim pixel perfect on the corner to place a corner roof, press F multiple times to make it snap in the correct position facing the correct way, start pressing left click to put the roof, move the mouse 1mm by accident: roof is now placed on the ground facing outwards

That's how it goes for me

I will need to check. I`ll let you guys know. Thank you all for the replies though, it`s just driving me up the walls. Simple "circular" middle using triangle foundations, 2 foundations out from that. Two walls high and then trying to fit a roof as it`s gonna cover my Bonfire and what do you know. No supporting buildings nearby when you try getting the final part of the roof done. It`s so annoying haha!

Can confirm, there are no server side settings to remove building stability or even reduce or increase the stability given by buildings. I`ve not tested it extensively but, it feels like one foundation or pillar can only support 4 attached items spanning up and out. So 2 walls up, two roofs and that`s it. However, if it`s levelled to the foundation or pillar it supports more.

Guess I`m just gonna skip trying to make circular buildings as it`s such a pain and instead resort to my old tribal houses from ark, but there are building limitations here I do not like. Hoping they`ll make some changes in the future and at least double the stability provided by pillars and foundations for verticality.

There is no stability, you can build 3 pieces out from a foundation or pillar.

Agree with you. I have one question: The rain go through the ceiling like in Ark for example?, or the ceilings has the correct "collision"?

Rain is blocked by structures (at least on my ultra high settings). Even the ground stays dry and the little overhang of roofs also casts a rain shadow.
