Can't saddle alpaca?

So I found a baby alpaca, raised it up, made some alpaca saddles, but none will go into the saddle slot. It will follow me around when I tell it to, but I can't equip a saddle. I read in here about an alpaca quest... I haven't been paying attention to those, just playing around discovering stuff. Do I need to have the quest in order to saddle an alpaca? Or is this alpaca just bugged? Is there a simple trick to it I'm missing?

wait it grow up to 100%. When alpa is adult you can equip into the saddle slot

You can put a saddle in its saddle slot in its inventory even when it's a baby...

Are you sure you made an alpaca saddle or a llama saddle?
