Server bug MAJOR world folder inflating
Have reported this on the discord, but thats such a fast moving channel that its likely to be missed.

I use AMP to run my game servers for me and mates, I got an error that the backup failed as it was too large.
After some investigating I found that:
/WS/Saved/Worlds/Dedicated/Level01_Main
was now 16gb in size.... and increasing
there is a 42mb file called world.db that would be the world save.
then 370+ files with names like: auto_0_20240603181257.db which i suspect to be auto saves.

the issue is that its not deleting old auto saves! so our hard drives are slowly being swallowed by the game lol.

I class this as major since most server hosts limit the storage space, when you cant save the file you get all sorts of issues.

I had someone using a gportal server check thier world folder and they too had the same issue.

at its current rate it should consume our 2tb hard drive in about 33 days....

Bumping this as its rather major.
Not sure how long before servers with less hd space start getting issues with full disks but I doubt it will be long

Ya mine is quite large in size now also 16+ GB

Yeah hoping a dev or moderator notices and replies to this soon. It would be nice to know its being looked at and worked on

I run this in AMP as well. Can you set a script to auto-delete the oldest autosave?

I could set up a cron job to clear them, but it is a major enough issue that i suspect they will fix it soon.

Bump

Still happening

not only is this still happening, when you delete these files they go in the trash(I'm not a linux guy so I'm probably doing it wrong) . I was keeping only one days worth of this and the amount that I was able to keep kept getting lower until there were only 3 files and it was giving me the full error. I had to figure out how to get into the trash bin in the CLI and delete these files

Me thinks this has something to do with this AMP you are talking about.
I do not see such issues on my dedicated server.

You can control how often the backups occur with a launch flag -backup=<time in minutes>

I just adjusted mine to only backup saves at 12 hour intervals, and that has been manageable for diskspace.

Thats a work around, but not a fix.
we can also set up scripts to delete older back ups.
we can manually delete backups (my method)
There are lots of work arounds that are good for some, bad for others.

It is a major issue that it is still not fixed.

Nope not an amp issue. depending how often you have backups and how long your server is up. You will see the issue with time. Old backups are just not deleted (not amp backups but game backups).

On my server there is no auto backup on the world.db (been running 35 days)
I had to make my own batch file to backup the world.db every 8 hrs (and only keep 3 days of backups)

I like more control of the backup then using the -backup=<time in minutes> command

But I guess they need to improve the -backup option to include a retention flag to auto remove old backups

Also if you review the data in the world.db there are many rows for NPC that are 'dead' but not deleted from the database. They should review that and have old data purged

Any news on this? I use Haruhost to manage my server and the backup files are insane. I was backing up once a day but each backup folder was huge, and it was filling up an entire 1TB SSD after a couple of weeks. Now I back up once a week and delete old backups but the backup folder gets bigger with each save. My current backup is over 72 GB. wtf? I'm afraid that as my world gets more populated, that the backup folder will take over my entire SSD.

You need to navigate to:
WS/Saved/Worlds/Dedicated/Level01_Main

Delete the excess backups

world.db is the only file you MUST not delete, the others are backup of it. I recomend ordering by date and deleting all except the last days worth (or however long you want to keep backups for.

Its mind boggling that the devs have yet to address this.
