Whats the deal with Cotton?

I followed what people written in discussions, go to the west flint tribe, cotton will be planted outside the fence. NO cotton! so I restarted the game look and guess what cotton but you can't pick it? so I waited , in game 2 days, cotton gone pumpkins and corn, can pick them. restarted again and again always the same, cotton you can't pick. any ideas? this can't be the only place for cotton? this keeps me from building the Armor table.

I picked cotton from that same place. However, if it's been picked already you can't pick it. Did it have big, white fluffy flowers? I suspect someone got there first.

To be clear, I pressed "e" to collect, no sickle was required.

Not the only way to get cotton, but very odd problems.
I just go there and pick the cotton. Never had an issue.

I bought a scythe did not work, I used E to pick, did not work. I am on solo server just me so no one pick first.

It grows there, just like as if you grew it yourself. It might have still been growing when you went there. You have to keep going back to see if it's fully grown (you will get the "E" to pick it). The crops are randomized there so be sure to check both sides, there is usually cotton growing on at least one side.

deffo has cotton you can pick there, is where i got mine from was just like harvesting anything else hit e

It doesn't always have fully grown cotton. I've been by there to rob the place a few times and it will have peppers, potatoes, tomatoes, corn, or cotton randomly. Some of the plants are fully grown, some are not. You can use either a scythe or hands.

The flint tribe got multiple fields in front of their base with switching crops on them. So no cotton is just a case of bad luck. harvest what ever is there with the scythe and come back again later.

That cotton is there and you can't harvest it on the other hand... that sounds like a strange bug to me.

Tribal crops are randomly generated, so the same field might have cotton one day and tomatoes the next. Cotton needs to be ripe to be harvested, it looks brownish and kinda dead when it is. Try looting the Flint Tribe's chest, they tend to have cotton seeds in them.
