Recycling old structure materials?

Good Afternoon All,

When I upgrade my thatch structure to wood etc.. it just gives me the thatch wall back. is there a way recycle the thatch wall and get some materials back?

Also, I've noticed that under the upgrade option for thatch door and thatch double door to wood isn't considered as a wood wall. despite being an option/variation under wall. However, windows you can upgrade fine this way and other variations ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's insanely disheartening that not only was there no answer to your question for such a basic and obvious mechanical need in this game, but that you asked it back in June of last year and it's been so long.

This game is in early access and that affords it certain breathing room but as of right now the ONLY way I can see to recycle materials from old buildings is through the dismantle feature WHILE ITS PLACED.

That is a glaring red flag, this is basic building 101 stuff, I cannot fathom why an easier solution hasn't been implemented.
